The Dallas Mavericks lost a 2-point game to the Golden State Warriors, making the team fall below .500 and become the 9th seed in the West.
The Mavs were endlessly mocked for seemingly guarding the wrong side of the court and giving up 2 uncontested points to the Warriors. Given the Mavs lost by 2 points, that basket seems very important in retrospect. Turns out, that basket was conceded due to the referees giving the Mavs incorrect information, causing Mark Cuban to stir up a storm on Twitter.

The Mavs have officially filed a protest for the same as well. If their protest is successful, the teams will have to play the game back from the point of infraction. That is an unlikely outcome, but it’ll be interesting to see how this will play out in front of Adam Silver. The Mavs have 5 days to submit proof for their claim.
The Dallas Mavericks plan to file to the NBA a formal protest of their 127-125 loss to the Golden State Warriors tonight, with focus on alleged referee mistake that led to two free Warriors points late in the third quarter, source tells @TheAthletic @Stadium.

There hasn’t been a successful protest in the NBA since 2008, so it’s going to be hard for the Mavs to make this stick. They tried protesting in 2020 against the Atlanta Hawks and demanded a replay of the last 10 seconds of the game after an overturned goaltending call. It failed.
Focusing On The Wrong Things?
The Dallas Mavericks didn’t lose this game because of that one 2-point swing that the referees have seemingly caused. They lost the game due to poor late-game execution once again, which saw them take bad shots and not be able to defend competently. Despite the amazing stat line of 30 points and 17 assists that Luka Doncic had, he still lacked defensively and kept arguing with referees.
The Mavs need to address their play on the court more than blame referees. This season seems to be one where every team has had its share of tough losses due to poor refereeing. There were plenty of calls that went Dallas’s way that Warriors fans have every right to be miffed at. Improving the standard of play on-court is the first step, and addressing inconsistent league-wide refereeing is the next step.
