The Charlotte Hornets have not been a fun team to watch this season. After positive progression in the last 2 seasons, the Hornets have returned to being one of the worst teams in history.

With the absence of LaMelo Ball due to injury and the Hornets slinking to the third-worst record in the East, ticket prices have plummeted. Last night’s game against the Indiana Pacers was being re-sold for just $1.

“Two tickets to Monday night’s game against the Indiana Pacers were listed for $1 each, or $14 with fees and sales tax, on Gametime as of Monday afternoon. A single upper-level seat was $3, or $10 with fees and tax on the ticketing app.” (h/t Axios Charlotte)

Given the hot commodity the NBA is, most contending teams have their stadiums sold out or have extremely expensive tickets available. When you’re tanking, sacrificing ticket sales is a risk that teams take.

With it also being March Madness season, the college basketball focus in Charlotte is naturally going to drown out the games of the unsuccessful NBA team.

Michael Jordan Looking To Move On From The Hornets?

The majority owner of the Charlotte Hornets for the last 13 years has been Michael Jordan. Arguably the greatest basketball player ever, MJ is known for being a serial winner. Sadly, he hasn’t even come close to winning in his 13 seasons in charge of the Hornets. With the Sacramento Kings destined to make the playoffs this season, the Hornets will be the new holders of the longest playoff drought.

Jordan is allegedly looking to sell his majority stake in the team and move to the background as a minority owner of the team. MJ bought his stake in the team for $180 million and can now possibly sell it forward for over $1.5 billion, generating a tremendous return on investment.

He’ll be linked to the NBA forever because of his impact, the Jordan Brand, and his minority ownership of the Hornets. But after 13 failed seasons of making the Hornets one of the contending teams in the league, it may be time for MJ to cash out while the sum is as high as it is now.
