Kyrie Irving Explains How Anthony Davis’ Mistake Led To Game Winner For The Mavericks Against The Lakers

Anthony Davis was on the way to leading the Los Angeles Lakers to another much-needed victory, but instead, they fell to a last-second winner against the Dallas Mavericks.

Kyrie Irving found Maxi Kleber open on the perimeter, and the German nailed the three-pointer to help the Mavericks beat the Lakers. And after the game, Irving pointed out Davis’ mistake on the final play that allowed him to make the pass.

“It seemed like three of them were around me at the end of the game,” Irving said. “But I’m just grateful that I was able to have my head on the swivel. I thought about, for a split second, forcing that two up to tie the basketball game. But I saw Maxi open.

“I saw AD kind of helping a little too much. So, I tried to get it into his shot pocket, and I’m glad I got it to him with enough time to at least get the shot off. I could easily be sitting in this position with a loss.”

Anthony Davis got a couple of things wrong during the clutch in the close contest. On the play before, he fouled Maxi Kleber shooting a three-pointer, and then he also missed a free-throw that would have at least secured overtime for the Los Angeles Lakers.

Davis has been pretty great for the Lakers in recent games, so this can be chalked down to being a bad moment for him. But it’s another indication that he might not be the man to lead the team as well. He did accept responsibility for his team, though a sign of good leadership.

Anthony Davis’ Message To The Lakers After Mavericks Loss

Anthony Davis had 26 points and 10 rebounds during the game, doing so with pretty good efficiency as well. He could have pointed to what he did well after the game, but he was big enough to accept his mistakes in the clutch.

“What did I tell them? I don’t know I mean I already came in and told that last play was my fault, but let’s say watch again tonight, watch the film tomorrow. Shoot some free throws. There’s nothing we can do about it, to be honest. Our focus is now Sunday, trying to win against Orlando.”

The Los Angeles Lakers are in a precarious position at the moment, having fallen to a 34-37 record. They need to start winning once again if they are to secure a playoff spot. Their season is hanging in the balance once more.
