Since the NBA All-Star break, the Los Angeles Lakers have been one of the most consistent teams in the league. They have won several games, but at the same time, they are still far from clinching a permanent spot in the postseason.

The journey to the playoffs has become even more difficult for the team following their most recent loss against the Luka Doncic-less Dallas Mavericks. The Purple and Gold were up until the very last second when Maxi Kleber hit a game-winning shot against the Lakers. Kleber used the Lakers’ weakness, which was already shown against the Pacers.

The play shown above was used by the Indiana Pacers during their November 2022 matchup against the Lakers. In the game, the Lakers blew a 17-point fourth-quarter lead and were handed an embarrassing defeat.

Although the Lakers didn’t blow such a huge lead against the Mavericks, Anthony Davis‘ underwhelming last minute of the fourth quarter was the reason behind the defeat. Davis committed mistake after mistake following his viral conversation with LeBron James.

Is The Lakers’ Season Over?

Following the Lakers’ consistent performance after the NBA All-Star break, many truly started to believe that the team would make a comeback this season. But after two consecutive losses against the Rockets and the Mavericks, the hopes for the Lakers’ qualification for the postseason are hanging by a thread.

The team currently has a 34-37 record and holds the 10th seed in the Western Conference. With LeBron James still not having a concrete return timetable from his injury, the Lakers are on their own for the final 11 games of the season.

Sure, there is still a chance for the team to advance to the playoffs. But the way that the team has played in their last two games, fans won’t count on the team to go on a winning streak.

If they can, well and good. Otherwise, the Laker Nation is already preparing for yet another disappointing ending to a regular season.
