With Ja Morant’s apology flooding social media, the Memphis Grizzlies are preparing to be whole again as their star nears his return from an 8-game suspension.
While the whole situation has been a nightmare for the Grizz, ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski said they are actually feeling relieved with how the whole thing has panned out.
“There’s a sense around the Memphis Grizzlies team and Ja Morant that they are fortunate (with the league’s decision). In many many ways this situation could have been much worse,” Woj said. “Essentially, Ja Morant is going to be back on the court when he’s ready to be back on the court. He’s eligible on Monday, but he’s not ready to be able to play on Monday. They gotta give him some time here to ramp back up and get reacclimated with his teammates. But I think the league and the Grizzlies, they’ve been in constant contact throughout this process …” (10:20).

The NBA’s investigation found that Morant was actually flashing someone else’s gun, which means he didn’t break league rules about carrying a firearm on the plane or during a team road trip. Something like that would have likely cost Morant at least 25 games.
So, while the young star has no timetable for his return, it shouldn’t be long before he steps back on the court for the Grizzlies and re-takes his place as the leader of that team, for better or worse.
Can Grizzlies Make A Deep Playoff Run This Season?
Now that we know no. 12 will be back before the season’s end, it’s impossible to count the Grizzlies out as contenders in the West. If Ja can avoid causing more distractions and Steven Adams returns at full strength, Memphis has a good chance to win the West and shoot for a championship.
And while some experts might claim they still need some kind of veteran leader, there is no doubt the team feels good about where they stand.
But you can’t blame fans for having doubts, especially after seeing this wild side to Ja. In the postseason, all it takes is one moment to destroy everything, and the Grizzlies are extra vulnerable right now after so much turmoil in the last few weeks.
