Russell Westbrook may come with many flaws as a basketball player, but the Los Angeles Clippers continue to find ways to work around them.

Speaking to the media ahead of their game in Madison Square Garden on Saturday, head coach Tyronn Lue spoke honestly about Russ and his role with the team so far.

“It’s a 100 percent buy-in and he’s been great,” Tyronn Lue said. “Even last game when he didn’t go back in just talking to T-Mann, talking to the guys, staying engaged, cheering for his teammates and it was huge. And so what he’s brought to our team has been great just far as we’ve been asking to do a lot of different things and trying to learn on the fly, not a lot of time to really have time to really practice it and go over it. So he’s been doing a lot of things on the fly, but he’s been great.”

Winners of two straight games, LA is now 5th in the West and just three games back from the 4th seeded Phoenix Suns. While the Russ experiment is still in its early stages, things are finally starting to look better after a rocky start.

As for Russ, he seems to have accepted his role with the Clippers and is maintaining good spirits despite not closing every game. But with so many questions still unanswered, one has to wonder what the ceiling is for this team when you look at the rest of the West.

Can Russell Westbrook Help The Clippers Win A Title?

At this stage of his career, Westbrook is no longer playing the role he did with the Thunder or even the Lakers. And now, with a talented supporting cast around him, Westbrook is in a position to succeed with his new team.

In his first seven games so far, Russ is averaging 14.1 points, 8.1 assists, and 3.7 rebounds per game on an efficient 51% shooting.

So, Russ is showing signs of improvement with LAC, and there is hope that he can sustain this level of production for the rest of the season and into the playoffs.

Sadly, with teams like the Nuggets, Grizzlies, and Suns at the very top, it’s unlikely that the Clippers will escape out of the Western playoff bracket this year, but nothing is impossible when you have Paul George and Kawhi Leonard on your team.
