The Los Angeles Clippers have been trying to find an answer for their struggles at point guard since they made the duo of Paul George and Kawhi Leonard.
There have been a number of big-name point guards that have cycled through the Clippers locker room in recent years and Terance Mann feels he’s blessed to have been mentored by them.

The Clippers decided to upgrade their guard rotation of Patrick Beverley and Lou Williams in 2019-20 by adding title-winner Rajon Rondo in 2020-21. Reggie Jackson also became a rotational point guard for the last few seasons, along with additions this season in John Wall and later, Russell Westbrook.
Mann was a second-round pick in the 2019 Draft and has been there from the beginning of this era, becoming a rotational player in his sophomore season. He’s had the chance to work with all these guards and by next season, may finally earn the starting spot.
The Revolving Door Of Point Guards
All the guards that Mann named are icons of their generation and were multiple-time All-Stars. However, all 3 of them joined the Clippers later in their career. All 3 players have regressed far too much to be reliable starting point guards for the title-contending Clippers. Rondo averaged 7.6 points and 5.8 assists in just 18 games played, while Wall averaged 11.4 points and 5.2 assists in 34 games.
The Russell Westbrook experiment has just begun but isn’t off to a good start. The team is 1-5 since Westbrook joined, with their sole win coming over a heavily-depleted Memphis Grizzlies squad. He is averaging 15.3 points and 8.3 assists through 6 games played.
With Paul George and Kawhi Leonard as wing players, they’ve needed a point guard to be the offensive fulcrum that can get the most out of the 3-and-D wing players that the Clippers have. Westbrook’s recent addition has highlighted that, with his assist numbers looking impressive. However, the lack of spacing and scoring from Russ again puts them into specific pitfalls that have handicapped their ceiling.
Maybe they find an answer next season, possibly Mann himself taking that role. Russ still has games left to prove his worth, otherwise, he may also join the list of point guards that came and went over this 4-year Clippers’ stretch.
