The Miami Heat were just three wins away from an NBA Championship, but in the end, they just didn’t have enough to keep up with Denver’s arsenal of star power and depth. This summer, Pat Riley was looking to change that by making a run for Damian Lillard.

Sadly, Lillard is off the table for now, but there’s another player who could be available for Miami: James Harden of the 76ers. After it was announced that he opted in with the purpose of seeking a trade, the Heat emerged as early suitors for the former MVP.

“When you look at the landscape around the league, the Clippers and Heat are expected to emerge in this process for (James) Harden, I’m told. Teams across the league that I’ve spoken to understand a player like Harden will likely reach a preferred destination, especially when you look at how his exit from Houston went a couple of years ago.”

Harden is not on the same level as Dame, clearly, but he’s a good alternative for the Heat, who already have Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo to lead the show. As a premier shooter and playmaker, James would provide a significant boost to the Heat offensively, but it remains to be seen if Miami has the assets to get a deal done.

James Harden Makes The Heat Favorites In The East

After a run to the NBA Finals, nobody can say that Miami is far from winning a title. With one or two more moves, it could be all they need to go on a monster tear.

Love him or hate him, Harden is talented enough to move the needle for the Heat, and his ability to hit threes will ease the pressure from Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo to carry their team offensively.

With averages of 21 points, 10.7 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game last season, James brings a lot to the table for Miami, and trading for him would be one of the best moves they make this summer.
