The Golden State Warriors traded Jordan Poole to the Washington Wizards, in a deal that sent them point guard Chris Paul. There’s no doubt that the team was actively trying to move him for a multitude of reasons.

A recent report from Tim Kawakami of The Athletic revealed that the Warriors tried to move Poole to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for OG Anunoby. However, the Raptors didn’t want to do such a deal, and thus Poole was moved to the Wizards.

“One of the Warriors’ calls, I’m told, was to check with Toronto about a proposal centering on Poole for 25-year-old forward OG Anunoby. But the Raptors weren’t interested.”

There is no doubt that OG Anunoby would have been a good acquisition for the Golden State Warriors. He would give the team another elite defender and quality shooter (38.7% from the 3PT range), and Anunoby would be a perfect fit in their system. With that being said, Chris Paul is a good addition as well due to his pick-and-roll ability and leadership, and we’ll see how the Warriors do next season.

During the 2022-23 regular season, Jordan Poole averaged 20.4 PPG, 2.7 RPG, and 4.5 APG, though he was slightly inefficient, shooting 43.0% from the field and 33.6% from beyond the arc. There is no doubt that losing him will cause the Warriors to lose some shot creation, though that could potentially be rectified by making further moves.

Stephen Curry Admitted That It’s Tough For Him To See Jordan Poole Traded

Losing a player of Jordan Poole’s caliber is always difficult. In fact, Stephen Curry previously admitted he hated losing Jordan Poole, but added that Chris Paul could help the team win.

“You hate losing JP. I know it’s not all the way official yet. So I don’t want to talk too much before it is. But that’s the tough part of the business, seeing a young guy come into his own (and then get traded). It’s a great opportunity for him,” Steph said via Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “It’s just you get to know someone like that, build a friendship, build a bond. It’s tough to see him go. But, you know, we’re trying to win next year and CP can help us do that.”

It remains to be seen how Jordan Poole’s loss will affect the Golden State Warriors. He was a crucial part of the team’s championship run in 2022, but perhaps the Warriors can find success without him.
