The Los Angeles Clippers are a team that has consistently been competitive over the last few seasons. Despite their talent, the team has not been able to win an NBA championship.

Kawhi Leonard and Paul George have been the faces of this iteration of the Los Angeles Clippers, and a recent report suggests that the franchise isn’t quite sold on the duo’s ability to win a championship. Zach Lowe of ESPN recently claimed that the Clippers might not offer the duo the four-year contract extensions that they’re eligible for.

“The biggest subplot in the NBA that not enough people are talking about is Paul George and Kawhi Leonard with the Clippers, being extension eligible. In Kawhi’s case in July. I think in Paul George’s case in September. Because I just don’t think, based on what I’ve heard, that if those guys walk in the door and ask for four-year max extensions, I don’t think the Clippers are just giving them to them.”

To be fair to the star duo, the Los Angeles Clippers did manage to make their first Western Conference Finals in franchise history during the Kawhi Leonard-Paul George era. Still, they have fallen short of the championship, which is what many fans expected when the duo joined the team in the summer of 2019.

Hopefully, we see Kawhi Leonard and Paul George win at least one championship in the future. However, next season might be the last year for that to happen, and we’ll see what ends up happening.

The Clippers Have Had Some Trade Talks Regarding Paul George

The Los Angeles Clippers have had some trade talks regarding Paul George, further reinforcing the idea that the team isn’t quite sold on their current star duo. Notably, they discussed a Paul George trade with the New York Knicks.

“The Knicks and Clippers have had contact about a potential Paul George trade, per SNY sources. It is unknown if the Clippers are willing to move George. Marc Stein reported earlier that Clips gave rival teams the impression that they were gauging George’s trade value last week.”

It remains to be seen if the Los Angeles Clippers do end up trading Paul George. A lot of teams would love to have a forward with his skill set, but the Clippers likely want a haul for him.
