When Andre Iguodala joined the Golden State Warriors back in 2013, nobody knew they would become one of the NBA’s all-time great dynasties.
But even way back in his first season with the team, Iggy had a feeling he was in the presence of greatness. Speaking in a recent episode of Club ShayShay, the former Finals MVP got real on his reaction after seeing Stephen Curry’s greatness for himself first-hand.
“When I signed with the Warriors in 2013, and you do the press conference and say what you’re supposed to say, ‘I’m here to win a championship.’ Nobody takes you seriously,” Iggy said. “But I’m saying to myself, ‘I think I’ve met the closest thing to Jesus Christ.’ Not to put that on him, but I’ve never seen an individual like him, he doesn’t stray away from who he is. You know what you’re getting night in and night out, and I can see it.”
The Warriors won their first modern championship in 2015 after beating LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in 6 games. Andre Iguodala won Finals MVP for his defensive effort against King James, but it was Curry who allowed them to get that far in the first place.
Will Stephen Curry Win Another Championship?
Steph put the world on notice after raising the Larry O’Brien trophy that year, and the Warriors became nearly impossible to stop as they reached the apex of their run.
Fast forward to today, and the Warriors are accomplished and proven enough to have the benefit of the doubt in a season where they’ve struggled mightily. Curry is a huge part of the reason for that, and his return from injury later this season could easily launch the Warriors back into the realm of title contention.
If not, then you can bet on the Warriors to come back in full force next season with a healthy team and revamped roster around the greatest shooter ever.
Either way, no matter which way you slice it, the Warriors are a team that should not be counted out, and Andre Iguodala will be the first to tell you how Curry’s greatness can overcome even the worst of odds.
