All eyes were on Russell Westbrook on Friday night as he prepared to make his debut for the Los Angeles Clippers and it ended up being a game for the ages.
The Clippers and the Sacramento Kings played out the second-highest scoring game in NBA history, with the Kings winning 176-175 in double OT. Westbrook finished the night with 17 points, 14 assists, 5 rebounds, and a steal in 39 minutes before fouling out and NBA fans were impressed by what they saw.
But he’s a terrible team player. https://t.co/7Wpqf9AGJ1

A fan took a shot at Westbrook’s haters who don’t consider him to be a team player after he set the record for most assists by a player on their Clippers debut.
happy for him fr 👏🏽 https://t.co/2kjw8kfXVa

Another was just happy to see the former MVP do well once again after all the criticism that has come his way.
Go off then Russ😳🔥🔥 https://t.co/srIYBoYqBD

While it wasn’t vintage Russ by any means, he played his part in the spectacle that we got to witness and this fan was happy to see him go off.

The ‘Beastbrook’ nickname hasn’t come out all that often this season but the fan felt Russ deserved it for this performance against the Kings.

Another fan believes Russ is back now because his critics are rushing to point out the areas where he struggled, like the turnovers as he had 7 of them in the game.
He almost became the hero on debut when he put the Clippers up 3 with 15 seconds remaining, but they were unable to hold on to the advantage. There had been a lot of questions on just how Westbrook would fit within the Clippers’ system and the early signs are that he might do just fine. He is the best playmaker on this team and also showed a willingness to be a screener at times, something he didn’t seem too keen on in the past. Whether he is just doing it because it is his first game or if this is the norm from here on out, we’ll find out pretty soon.
Stephen A. Smith Wouldn’t Be Shocked If The Clippers Made The NBA Finals After Signing Russell Westbrook
While it is quite worrying how bad the Clippers were defensively here, their offense was chugging along just fine, to say the least. Kawhi Leonard was magnificent as he finished with 44 points while Paul George had some rough moments but still finished with 34 points.
If these two can stay upright, then the Clippers have a chance, and Stephen A. Smith believes that an energizer bunny like Westbrook is just what this team needs. He feels that Westbrook’s production from the point guard spot would be huge and that he wouldn’t be surprised if they made it to the NBA Finals.
