Russell Westbrook Took A Shot At The Lakers' Roster After His Clippers Debut
Russell Westbrook took a subtle shot at the Los Angeles Lakers following his impressive LA Clippers debut saying it was great to have "options" as a point guard. And he probably meant that he didn't have ample shooters when he was with the Lakers.
“It’s great as a point guard to be able to have many options and it’s hard for the defense because they don’t know what to take away.”
The Lakers were one of the worst three-point shooting sides in the league, and Westbrook didn't miss a beat when he called that fact out, albeit subtly. Although, it should be noted that he shot 29.5% himself.
The Lakers have addressed the issue since, although it came at the cost of Westbrook. They landed D'Angelo Russell and Malik Beasley, improving their offense and winning three games in their last four.
Westbrook had a good evening himself, propping up 17 points, 5 rebounds, and 14 assists in the team's intense 176-175 double-OT clash. Their shooters, Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George had even better numbers notching up 44 points and 34 points respectively.
Being Wanted Was One Of The Reasons Why Russell Westbrook Joined The LA Clippers
Russell Westbrook was one of the in-demand buyout candidates at the conclusion of the trade deadline, and the Clippers were one of the teams keen on signing the explosive point guard.
The former MVP was also eager on signing with the other LA team as he believed that being wanted was a major factor in inking his deal.
"That's a huge part for any normal human being... a lot of teammates and people that want you here is very important. To me, I value that a lot.”
After what comes off as a promising start, both the Clippers and Westbrook will be hoping to continue in the same vein of form as the regular season inches to a close.
The team is poised to make the playoffs, and Westbrook's acumen and playmaking abilities will be a massive boost to the team. He is a former MVP, and it will be very interesting to see how he will fit with Kawhi Leonard and Paul George.
Los Angeles Clippers' goal is to win the championship and if they don't at least get to the NBA Finals, their fans will be disappointed.
