Russell Westbrook is relishing the opportunity to play with the Los Angeles Clippers, a team that wanted him and acquired his services soon after he finalized a buyout with the Utah Jazz.

The point guard was beaming when he explained about the Clippers wanting him, and he made his thoughts clear about what it meant to feel that way.

Speaking to the reporters in his introductory press conference, there was a string of questions Westbrook fielded and in each of those answers, happiness was a common emotion that could be observed.

“That’s a huge part, man, for anybody, for any normal human being in any situation in the workplace,” Westbrook said. “A lot of teammates and people that want you here, it’s very important to me. I value that a lot.”

Westbrook comes off a tumultuous time with the Los Angeles Lakers, despite his improved performances for the side this season. Now that he’s indeed signed with a team that wanted him on the roster, only time will tell if he can mold his game that would massively benefit the Clippers.

LA Clippers Head Coach Tyronn Lue Wants “Russ To Be Russ”

One of the bigger issues during Russell Westbrook’s time with the Lakers was his fit alongside LeBron James and Anthony Davis. But with the Clippers in need of a point guard with Westbrook’s skills — his playmaking and his ability to penetrate quickly through opponents make him a good addition.

Speaking to the media about how he intends to use the 34-year-old, head coach Tyronn Lue stressed that he just wanted Westbrook to be himself.

“We want Russ to be Russ. If he’s doing too much or not enough, I’ll let him know. We want him to be the MVP, the Hall of Famer that he is. We just gotta make sure it’s in the confines of our team… He’s excited, he just wants to win.”

There’s no doubt that Westbrook, barring some of his glaring flaws still has ample basketball left in him. His improved play with the Lakers shows signs of promise that he can get better with a team that’s been after his services ever since he was traded to the Jazz.

With Westbrook and the Clippers gunning for a championship, it remains to be seen if this team can make a deeper run in the playoffs.
