The NBA Slam Dunk Contest has lost its charm to an extent, this is something no one can deny. Mac McClung breathed some life back into it this year, but there is a lot more that needs to be done for the event to regain its prestige. And as many have spoken about, the main thing that needs to happen is participation from the brightest young stars in the league.

Kevin Durant has spoken about how he would enjoy seeing Zion Williamson and Ja Morant in the Dunk Contest. But it’s become evident in the modern NBA that the biggest stars do not participate. And the best example of this is LeBron James, who many have blamed for this trend. Despite being the league’s most exciting young player in the 2000s, LeBron never participated in the Dunk Contest. And what’s worse is that in 2010, he teased fans by suggesting that he might.

“Preliminary put my name in the 2010 Dunk Contest on Saturday night. LeBron James is saying, that in 2010, in Dallas Stadium, primarily I’m putting my name in the Dunk Contest.”

Despite saying this, LeBron James didn’t participate in the Contest itself. That year, Nate Robinson won it all, competing against Gerald Wallace, Shannon Brown, and DeMar DeRozan. And after this video recently went viral again, fans were quick to bash LeBron James for what he said.

NBA Fans Roasted LeBron James For Lying About The Dunk Contest

LeBron James in his career has at times made promises that he didn’t deliver on. This is an example of that, fans have caught him lying a few times now. And the replies to the video were ruthless, with many making calling out the King.

“One of his many lies.”

“LeCap never stops.”

“Boy been lying his entire career.”

“Bro was totally drunk there.”

“LeBron James has told some generational lies.”

“This dude killed the Dunk Contest fr.”

“How he just blatantly lie like that?”

“This y’all GOAT? Smh.”

“I will never forget this moment nor forgive.”

“He just did not need to lie there.”

“I can’t believe how hyped I was when this happened.”

“This is a joke fr bro, Bron is a cap God.”

To be fair to LeBron James, he did say he was putting his name in ‘preliminarily.’ But either way, you slice it, this is a bad look for him. Without stars participating, the Contest loses a lot of hype, and although the likes of Aaron Gordon and Mac McClung have managed to excite crowds, this trend of stars not participating needs to end.
