Prior to the start of this 2022-23 NBA season, the Los Angeles Clippers were seen as one of the favorites to win it all. They had two stars in Kawhi Leonard, and Paul George, a great supporting cast, and one of the best head coaches in the league in Tyronn Lue.

Leonard’s slow recovery from his ACL tear meant the Clippers took a while to get going, but they have now won 10 of their last 14 games, with two of the losses coming when Kawhi didn’t play. Adding a former MVP and future first-ballot Hall-of-Famer to this mix should make the Clippers a lot better, but not everyone thinks that is the case.

The player in question is, of course, Russell Westbrook, and the Clippers’ championship odds have somehow gotten worse after signing him.

It isn’t a very big change, but the fact that the signing worsened it even a little bit, tells you just how low Westbrook’s stock is at the moment. While there is definitely a chance that this won’t work, it isn’t set in stone that this move is a disaster, as was the case when Westbrook moved to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Can The Clippers Win It All With Russell Westbrook?

This move has certainly been met with some criticism, with Skip Bayless, for one, saying that it has made the Clippers worse than the Lakers. Lue was also not sold on acquiring Russ, as he wanted a traditional point guard, but the players were campaigning for the team to sign Westbrook.

There are question marks for sure, but as JJ Redick put it, Westbrook is also capable of winning them a big playoff game and turning around a series. It can really go either way, and at the end of the day, it all comes down to how accepting he is of his role within the system.
