Russell Westbrook’s time with the Los Angeles Lakers finished right around the NBA Trade Deadline. Russ’ stint with the Lakers was far from good, so when he was finally traded to the Utah Jazz, many were happy for the 2016-17 NBA MVP. But even after getting traded to the Jazz, it quickly became clear that Westbrook wanted to finalize a buyout and join a championship contender.

After weeks of drama, Russell Westbrook ended up signing with the Los Angeles Clippers. This helped Brodie in staying in L.A. while joining a team where he can genuinely have a shot at winning the NBA Championship.

The rumors have suggested that Westbrook will also receive a starting role with the team and help in taking off the ballhandling load from Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. Despite that, head coach Tyronn Lue is reportedly still isn’t completely happy with the team signing Russ. Paul George and Marcus Morris wanted Westbrook on the team.

Paul George and Marcus Morris campaigned for Clippers to sign Westbrook, echoing something some of the players felt — that team could use a point guard. Ty Lue prefers a more tradition point guard on roster/rotation. Last time PG and Russ played together, PG was an MVP candidate.

George and Westbrook were teammates back during their time together with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The two superstars formed a great dynamic duo, and it’s no surprise George had a joyous reaction to Russ signing with the Clippers.

Can The Los Angeles Clippers Win The NBA Championship With Russell Westbrook?

Following the signing of Russell Westbrook, the new-look Clippers roster looks scary and is expected to be good enough to make a deep run in the playoffs. But what’s the ceiling of this newly formed group?

Well, many NBA fans believe that the Clippers genuinely have a shot at winning it all this season after signing Westbrook. The Clippers currently have a 33-28 record in the Western Conference and hold the fourth seed.

So it should be a piece of cake for the team to qualify for the playoffs. By the time playoffs start, Russell Westbrook will get adjusted to the team as well and will hopefully be the difference maker for the team in the postseason.
