There was a time when the Dunk Contest was what everyone looked forward to during All-Star weekend, but in recent years, it had become the least anticipated of all the events. The stars had stopped participating, and the dunks weren’t all that entertaining either, but that changed this time around, as Mac McClung put on a show.

McClung, who became the first G League player to get called up, shocked the basketball world with some stunning dunks to win the contest. Magic Johnson stated that McClung saved the event, while Stephen Curry congratulated him as well.

Another all-time great had some big praise for McClung, too, as LeBron James said that he is now one of the greatest slam dunk competitors in the history of the NBA.

“He solidified himself as one of the greatest slam dunk competitors that we’ve had in the history of the game. Just some of the dunks that he had, wasn’t a surprise to me, having seen him. Obviously being a high school sensation and seeing him dunk the basketball for quite a while now. But some of the dunks that he had was very unique. His hang time, his swag that he had out there too was organic to himself and it was pretty cool.”

“You got guys like Vince (Carter), you got Dominique (Wilkins), you got MJ (Michael Jordan), you got Aaron Gordon and Zach LaVine, and Mac McClung after this performance last night, some of the dunks that he had could compete with some of the dunks of some of the greatest that ever stepped foot on the court.”

To go from being in the G League to being mentioned along with Michael Jordan in less than a week is quite something. McClung has gone from a relative unknown to almost a household name, and his legend will keep growing as he plans to participate in next year’s contest too. He might have quite a tough time winning next year, though, as a certain someone from the New Orleans Pelicans is considering participating next year.

Zion Williamson Is Putting Heavy Consideration To Participating In The 2024 Dunk Contest

If there is one individual who every basketball fan wants to see in the Dunk Contest, it is Zion Williamson. Kevin Durant also named him as one of the players he wants to see in the contest, and Zion could participate next year.

He stated recently that he is putting heavy consideration into doing it, adding that if he is to participate, it will probably be next year. Zion vs. Mac would be quite a unique battle considering how differently they are built, but it would just add to the intrigue around the contest next year.

Marion’s versatility as a defender and his rebounding prowess, despite being just 6’7”, impressed Gautam immensely.
