Mac McClung set the NBA world on fire with his performance in the 2023 Dunk Contest on Saturday night. It was considered a bit controversial when McClung was announced as a contestant in the Dunk Contest since he was playing with a G-League side. But since then, the Philadelphia 76ers have given him a two-way contract and he has changed a lot of people’s opinions about him.

Mac McClung put on a show in the 2023 NBA Dunk Contest at All-Star Weekend. His dunks were consistently scored among the highest, with him getting less than a 50 on just one of his attempts. And he was the clear winner on the night, with many even applauding him for saving the Dunk Contest after it was over

The adulation and appreciation from fans and NBA stars will have meant a lot to McClung. Even the greatest shooter of all time had something nice to say about him, Stephen Curry tweeted appreciating McClung’s story so far.

“Man was a viral HOH high school dunk phenom, still working his way to the League, but lemme go get that dunk contest trophy right quick and bring it back to life!!! Unreal.”

His story is quite wild considering that he has wrapped up the Dunk Contest without any issues at this point. Curry has a point, for him to have won one of the more prestigious trophies around without even having a firm spot in the league is something to be proud of. And Mac McClung returned the compliments with interest.

Mac McClung Called Stephen Curry The GOAT In His Reply

Stephen Curry is the greatest shooter of all time, there is no doubt about this. Everyone in the NBA accepts this, he has the stats and the achievements to back up this claim. But not many would call him the GOAT even now, those conversations remain a little out of his reach still. But McClung isn’t worried about the nuances of the argument, he straight up referred to Steph as the GOAT in his reply to Curry’s lovely words.

“Appreciate you goat. The dream is the journey.”

This has probably been a crazy 24 hours for McClung, who has gone from being a player on his way out of the league to someone that everyone in the basketball world now knows. The work has just begun though, he will have to do a lot more to capitalize on the opportunities his contest win will create for him. But his journey will continue to be exciting to watch.
