Philadelphia 76ers guard and G League star Mac McClung put on quite the show in the 2023 NBA Slam Dunk Contest, and while accolades poured in for his scintillating performance, the biggest one was from Magic Johnson.

McClung won the Slam Dunk contest registering perfect 50 scores in three of his four dunks. The likes of Johnson and Stephen Curry lauded the youngster, and the former Lakers legend opined that McClung saved the Slam Dunk competition.

To which the champion had a very modest answer:

“Oh man, I don’t know if that’s true. But I appreciate that.”

He also spoke about the entire experience:

“It’s really a blur, to be honest. Probably a lot of stuff’s happened on the internet, I haven’t checked. Really just grateful. I had a lot of help, Chuck and my best friends calling me every night trying to give me ideas. It was a lot of fun.”

Safe to say, McClung is one of the best dunkers since Aaron Gordon and Zach LaVine, who set fire to the league in 2016.

Mac McClung Thanks ‘GOAT’ Stephen Curry After Warriors Sharpshooter Heaps Praise On Him

Curry took to Twitter to lavish praise on McClung and called him a phenom who already had a trophy to his name even before making a case for himself in the NBA.

Even fans were in awe of the guard for his jaw-dropping performances. Those who caught the show will know that McClung was the clear winner since his first run. And he had a rich response for Curry, who congratulated him earlier.

“Appreciate you goat. The dream is the journey.”

Safe to say, the contest has been one epic experience for McClung, who has been soaking it all in. The focus will be on his NBA career next, where he has a chance to make a mark for himself for the Sixers.

Fans will also be pleased with what McClung brought to the table, especially after the flak for the standards has dipped over the years. Only time will tell if he can continue enthralling the audience as he did this season.
