Over the years, we have seen a lot of the greats of the game beef with each other, but hostilities usually tend to ease up once they walk away from the game. It is a brotherhood at the end of the day, but one particular one-sided beef has gone the opposite way.

Michael Jordan and Charles Barkley were best friends during their playing careers, but their relationship crumbled after the latter questioned whether Jordan would ever be successful at running the Charlotte franchise. Barkley felt MJ hired too many of his friends who would never challenge his decisions, and Jordan did not like that one bit.

The two men haven’t spoken for almost 10 years and Barkley stated recently that he wants to repair his relationship with Jordan. His co-worker Kenny Smith knows a way to end the beef, and that requires Sir Charles to apologize to MJ.

(starts at 0:50 mark)

“Competitive juices is what holds it back. Apologize, Chuck. You were in the wrong anyway.”

There is obviously a lot of pride involved here, and Barkley probably doesn’t think he said anything wrong, as he was just doing his job as a talking head on television. MJ took it personally, and he isn’t really the kind of individual to easily let up in situations like this.

Kenny Smith Spoke On The Last Interaction Between Michael Jordan And Charles Barkley

Smith is one of the few people to have close ties with both men. He was Jordan’s college teammate at North Carolina in the 1980s and has obviously been working with Barkley on Inside the NBA for over two decades.

During this short interview with TMZ, he also spoke about the last interaction between the two former friends.

“You know what? The last time they were actually together, I put them together and it was indirect. We were in a hotel, Michael came to say hello and I was like, ‘Hey, this is Charles.’ and I didn’t realize it and we all took a picture so I have the last together picture of those two guys.”

When asked where it was, Smith replied, “Might have been in Chicago. We were in a hotel and he came down and I got the last picture.”

Smith had also spoken more in detail about that interaction back in 2016 to TMZ, where he stated that the situation was overblown and that there was no tension between them. He called himself the peacemaker between the two, but it is clear that the interaction in 2016 didn’t lead to the NBA legends reconciling.
