Shaquille O’Neal has given his two pennies on the failed Big 3 the Brooklyn Nets put together in 2021 when they landed James Harden to join Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving. As soon as these three got together, everybody thought the competition was over, with Harden even predicting ‘scary hours’ for the rest of the league once they found their form.

However, that never happened and these three ended up leaving the Nets at certain points in the past 12 months. First, Harden forced his way to Philadelphia, joining Joel Embiid at Wells Fargo Center. Then, Kyrie Irving requested a trade and landed in Dallas, joining Luka Doncic on the Mavericks. Finally, Kevin Durant was shipped to the Phoenix Suns in another blockbuster trade, ending the Nets’ tumultuous time with these three.

Many NBA fans reacted to this situation, and everybody has tried to put the blame on somebody. While Kendrick Perkins blames the players, others think the franchise never made a real effort to keep everybody happy, ultimately losing control of this situation.

Shaquille O’Neal Puts The Blame On Kyrie Irving For The Brooklyn Nets’ Big 3’s Failure

Shaquille O’Neal has reacted to this failed Big 3 too, and he has found somebody who deserves to take the blame for this. According to the four-time NBA champion, it all comes down to Kyrie Irving and his behavior on and off the court. The player starred in several controversies during his stay with the Nets, and things eventually fell apart for everybody.

TNT’s Shaquille O’Neal on three Nets stars requesting trades: “I did a lot of crazy stuff but at the end of it all, I knew my mother was watching. … When you ask to go somewhere and it don’t work out, it’s not always somebody else’s fault. I was raised different.” pic.twitter.com/GFp7t5LhWB

“Sometimes you have to look at yourself,” O’Neal said via Ben Golliver. “KD was no problem in Brooklyn, so let’s exclude him. Mr. Irving had a lot of stuff going on. James, I don’t know him. So, sometimes you have to look at yourself. I did a lot of crazy stuff. But, at the end of it all I knew my mother was watching, so I tried to keep it professional… But, sometimes you just have to look in the mirror. When you ask to go somewhere and it don’t work out, it’s not always somebody else’s fault. See, I was raised different. Like, my father didn’t play the excuses thing. When I went and we didn’t win, it’s your fault.”

The Kyrie Irving dramas and what followed them were very detrimental to the Nets. They needed to find a solution to every Kyrie issue, and just when things appeared to be going well for them, Irving shocked the world with a trade request. This situation was once again very complex for them, and the Nets decided to send Kyrie to Dallas.

Now, every former member of that Big 3 is on a different team, trying to win it all with different teammates. That Nets team will be remembered as a big failure, and it will be hard to see something so horrible in a long time.
