The Brooklyn Nets have recently moved Kyrie Irving after the star submitted a trade request, getting Spencer Dinwiddie, Dorian Finney-Smith, and a pick from the Mavericks in return.
It seems as though that move could potentially expand into being a three-team deal. A recent report from Marc Stein stated that the Nets have explored moving Spencer Dinwiddie and draft picks to the Toronto Raptors to acquire All-Star Fred VanVleet.

Among the possibilities for expanding the Kyrie Irving-to-Dallas trade before this evening’s scheduled trade call: League sources say that Brooklyn has explored the feasibility of packaging Spencer Dinwiddie and draft capital to Toronto in an attempt to acquire Fred VanVleet.
Fred VanVleet would definitely be a good acquisition for the Brooklyn Nets, as he is a point guard that excels at facilitating and shooting from 3PT range. Even though he has been slightly inefficient this season, VanVleet is averaging 19.7 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 6.5 APG for the Raptors as of now.
Kevin Durant has not yet requested a trade, and it is clear that the Brooklyn Nets are still trying to make win-now moves to help him win a championship. We will see what happens in the future, but if the Nets play things right, they could still end up being a championship team.
The Brooklyn Nets Will Have Some Competition In Acquiring Fred VanVleet
There is no doubt that Fred VanVleet is a valuable player, and the Brooklyn Nets will likely have some competition when trying to land him. A previous report stated that Fred VanVleet is also a trade target for the Los Angeles Clippers.
“League sources say the Clippers are also interested in Kyle Lowry and Fred VanVleet… VanVleet, who is at no. 76, is overall the best target for the Clippers considering he’s only 28, he’s a relentless on-ball defender, and he was an All-Star just last season.”
The Los Angeles Clippers are in need of a stable point guard that can play a complementary role behind Kawhi Leonard and Paul George. It thus makes sense that they would trade for a player like Fred VanVleet, who notably played with Kawhi Leonard in Toronto. They have notably been linked to D’Angelo Russell as well.
It remains to be seen which team ends up landing Fred VanVleet in the future. He’s definitely one of the more coveted point guards on the trade market, and there is a high chance that he will end up getting moved before the trade deadline.
