There is a lot more to do than just watch your favorite team play when you head over to an NBA arena these days. There are a lot of fan engagement activities going on and one that always gets the crowd hyped up is people trying their luck at shooting from halfcourt for big cash prizes.
The Los Angeles Lakers gave out a fan $75,000 for hitting a half-court shot and then gave $25,000 to another who drilled one a few days later. It takes skill and a lot of luck to score those, hence the big prize but not every team is loose with their purse strings. An Indiana Pacers fan managed to score from half-court on Friday night but he won just $500 for it and NBA fans roasted the franchise for being cheap.

“I know the Pacers organization not that big…..but only $500?!!…that’s the cheapest NBA halftime half court shot I ever heard of “
“$500? Take a draft pick away from the Pacers for being cheap.”
“With inflation this is like $40”
“You get 500 for a corner 3 nowadays”
“Only $500 … he’s shooting at the wrong games Lmao”
“Mans really got a refund for his 2 pairs of section 118 tickets.”
“Thunder fan hit the shot last week and won 20 Grand lol”
“Pacers broke lol”
“I was looking for a K after that number… Pacers cost saving?”
“They only gave $500??? Other teams are giving like 25k hahahah”
“Even Jeanie ain’t that cheap lol”
“500 like my budget on dinner”
“Imagine watching other fans win college scholarships or close to a million dollars and then you win 500.”
“That man can’t even sit courtside with hitting that shot! At least give that man tickets for the rest of the season! Do better @Pacers”
“If I hit that and found out I only got $500 I’d be pissed”
“I Nominate the Pacers as one of this weekend’s losers for only paying $500 (!) for this contest”
“500$ poverty franchise”
“I feel embarrassed heavy L @Pacers”
“I’ve seen rural high school basketball tournaments offer 1000”
“They ought to be ashamed of themselves”
As one of them pointed out, even the Oklahoma City Thunder gave out $20,000 to a fan who hit a half-court shot! What makes this even worse is that he also had to hit a free throw as well as a three-pointer before this and all he got was $500.
The Pacers At Least Have A Bright Future
While they are being incredibly cheap here, their fans at least have a promising future to look toward. Tyrese Haliburton is a star in the making and he probably is one already. Rookie Bennedict Mathurin is a contender for Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year while another rookie Andrew Nembhard has had some big moments against both Stephen Curry and LeBron James.
The fans will be hoping that the organization isn’t cheap when it comes to extending these players as that would really get on their nerves. The Pacers have done well to acquire such talents and they need to build a competent roster around them in the future.
