The Los Angeles Clippers were on a bit of a roll after beating the Toronto Raptors on the 27th of December last year. It was their 7th win in 9 games which saw them improve to 21-15 on the season and they looked set to shoot up the standings.

Both Kawhi Leonard and Paul George were healthy as well, so there was a lot of optimism surrounding the team, but they have been quite woeful after that. The Clippers have lost 4 in a row after that win over the Raptors with the latest loss being the most embarrassing one of the lot, as the Denver Nuggets blew them out 122-91. Stephen A. Smith was furious on NBA Countdown when he looked back on that result and he went off on the players.

“The Clippers stink! What a horrible performance last night vs. the Denver Nuggets. I ain’t talking about losing by 40, I’m talking about the effort, lollygagging around in the third quarter. Ty Lue, if I were him, go ask Steve Ballmer to let you out and go coach a real team. They don’t want to play, man. They are better than that. I know they’re 21-19, but they’ve lost 4 straight, they’re better than that. They don’t wanna play, they just wanna be in L.A. It is embarrassing.”

Those were some big shots fired at the Clippers players there. They have been accused in the past of not taking the regular season seriously and it has come back to bite them in the postseason. What makes performances like this one so frustrating, is that you know how good this team can be if it plays up to its potential.

NBA Insider Stated That Teams Fear The Clippers

The Clippers have what many would consider the deepest roster in the NBA, with some of their bench players being good enough to start on a lot of teams. To go with that, they have their two superstars and Tyronn Lue, one of the best coaches in the league.

With all that in mind, NBA insider Jake Fischer stated that teams are afraid that the sleeping giant is about to wake up. The Clippers on paper are a fantastic team that can beat anybody, but we have seen now over the years, that they end up falling short in the end. Will this year be any different? Their play in recent times suggests probably not, but they have time to fix it.
