After a rough start to the season, the New York Knicks have been playing some really good basketball lately. As winners of 7 straight, and 8 of their last 10, they sit in 6th place in the East with a record of 17-13 overall.

Still, despite some encouraging signs from the Knickerbockers, NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal is not impressed.

Ahead of their game against the defending champs on Tuesday, O’Neal gave his honest thoughts on the team and did not make any attempt to hide his skepticism.

“I’m happy for the Knicks, but I’m not gonna get too happy. They won 7 games [in a row], they’re in the 6th seed, whoopie freaking doo. There’s still a lot of season left… but I don’t think they can get out of one round of the playoffs.”

Knicks Active In Trade Talks For Two-Way Wing

O’Neal may not be wrong with his assessment of the situation in New York, which is why they may be considering bringing in some help. According to a report from Ian Begley of SNY, OG Anunoby is one player they have in mind ahead of the deadline.

The Toronto Raptors are not a good team this season, and perhaps they could elect to start a rebuild. OG Anunoby could be one of the pieces to get moved, and a recent report from Ian Begley of SNY revealed that one member of the Knicks has already reached out to the Raptors about potentially trading for the forward.

Before this most recent winning streak, someone from the club reached out to the Toronto Raptors to ask about trading for OG Anunoby. That’s a trade that would come at a significant cost — it’s not a move you make unless you know you have to shake up your roster.

The Knicks have also been linked to players like Kyle Kuzma, but it remains to be seen if they have the assets to pull off a trade of such magnitude. They might not even need to now with the way they’ve been rolling.

For now, the Knicks are going to keep riding this wave and hope that they’ll have some more ideas on how to improve in a few more weeks when the trade market is sure to be much more active.
