Donovan Mitchell and Rudy Gobert were expected to do so much for the Utah Jazz that they became a big failure when they couldn’t deliver the longed-for title to the team. After suffering big defeats in the 90s against Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls, they had renewed hopes with this duo, but that title never came.

Amid all their struggles, several reports suggest that they had beef and couldn’t stand each other, especially after Gobert’s antics during the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic. Things apparently got better between them, but their relationship on the court just got worse, with Mitchell not even passing the ball to Gobert.

Danny Ainge decided to part ways with these two players during the offseason, ending an era for the Jazz. After that, many people kept talking about their relationship and how bad it looked from the outside.

Donovan Mitchell Confirms He’s On Good Terms With Rudy Gobert

Mitchell already talked about his relationship with Gobert, making it clear that they were on good terms, but now he talked about why things didn’t work out for them in Salt Lake City. Donovan reveals that they had different visions for the team, and that simply didn’t work.

Via Andscape:

“Honestly, basketball just didn’t work. We live in such a world where it has to be really negative. Basketball just didn’t work. We didn’t see eye to eye. We wanted to both win, but we wanted to do it two different ways. It didn’t work. But as far as him and I go as people, I don’t hate him, and he doesn’t hate me. I wouldn’t say we’re the best of friends, but we’re not at the point where it’s like, I can’t stand him.”

The Jazz surprised everybody during the first month and a half of the 2022-23 season, but now they’re sitting at 8th in the West, which is still impressive considering they were seen as a tanking team before the start of the season. Meanwhile, the Cavaliers are the 3rd best team in the East, while the Minnesota Timberwolves are two spots behind the Jazz in the West.

Mitchell plays against his former team today in a game that will bring many emotions to him.
