Unless you’ve been living under a rock, then you already know what’s been going on in Los Angeles lately. After a mediocre season and highly disappointing summer, the Lakers didn’t come into this campaign with a lot of expectations. Yet, somehow, they’ve managed to be even worse than most were expecting.

Now, the Lakers are dealing with probably the worst possible news of all: another injury to Anthony Davis. This time, there isn’t even a concrete timetable for his return.

Ahead of the game against D.C. on Sunday, Lakers coach Darvin Ham spoke about Davis and revealed the state of thinking for the organization right now:

“The first priority is to take care of himself. To hell with what people have to say, he’s blocked out that noise. We have a phenomenal medical staff, and brilliant people within the organization, that wanna make sure he has the best possible care. And once we find out what’s going on, we will act accordingly. Just for him specifically though, just focus on your health and once it’s alleviated, he can start the process to get back on the floor. Injuries are a big part of our league and a part of major sports in general. Unfortunately, he’s had the injury history that he has but it’s no time to cry over spilled milk. Season’s fairly early and you just have to take care of business. It starts first and foremost with getting back healthy.”

Lakers Will Not Make Any Trades Despite Rough Start To Season

While James and Davis have been pretty solid so far, they don’t have nearly enough talent around them to make the Lakers a winning team. We shouldn’t expect much in the way of trades, either, as one NBA insider has made it clear that the Lakers no longer feel motivated to make a season-saving move.

“The trade completion in Lakerland has realistically changed this weekend irrespective of the Pistons’ Bogdanovic plans. Losing Anthony Davis indefinitely to a foot injury, suffered in Friday’s win over Denver, means that the Lakers’ playoff hopes might well be snuffed out already since they are 12-16 in the loaded West even with Davis playing as well as he ever has, averaging 27.4 points, 12.1 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game on while shooting a robust 59.3% from the field. Passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar as the NBA’s All-Time leading scorer thus might be the only thing LeBron James, currently, 766 points away from the top spot, has left to play for in his 20th season.”

Without AD for the next few weeks, this next stretch of games will likely be what makes or breaks this season. If LeBron and the rest of the squad are able to step in and make up for Davis’ absence, it could go a long way in keeping the season alive.

If not, then Lakers fans should be prepared to make this their reality for the rest of the season and hope that the summer brings the shakeup this franchise desperately needs.
