Zion Williamson is one of the best power forwards in the game today, and there’s no doubt that he has an extremely dominant player. He is well-known for his ability to slash to the rim. Currently, Zion Williamson is averaging 25.0 PPG, 7.3 RPG, and 4.3 APG for the New Orleans Pelicans.

Though he is dominating this season, Zion Williamson missed the whole 2021-22 season with a foot injury. Recently, Zion Williamson’s mom Sharonda opened up on the tough moments during his recovery, noting that people want to “stomp on you” when you’re down.

"People love you when you're up, but when you're down they wanna stomp on you. Its just part of this world… He just broke down crying 'Why does this keep happening to me?' Mom and Dad, we shielded you but have to let you see this is life."

“People love you when you’re up, but when you’re down they wanna stomp on you. Its just part of this world… After he came out of surgery, when we were leaving. We were in the car and we were talking. All of a sudden, he just broke down crying ‘Why does this keep happening to me?’

It was just tough. Mom and Dad, we shielded you but we gotta let you fly, and we have to let you see this is life, and this too shall pass. No mom wants to see her child in such a horrible place.”

There is no doubt that dealing with an injury is tough for any player, and there was even more adversity for Zion Williamson due to the consistent negative attention on him. He was frequently criticized for being out of shape by pundits such as Charles Barkley, and it is easy to see how this would affect his mental health.

Hopefully, we see Zion Williamson stay healthy for the New Orleans Pelicans this season. He has made them into a competitive team, and we’ll see what ends up happening in the future.

Zion Williamson Is Ready To Be Part Of Something Special

Prior to the beginning of the season, Zion Williamson claimed that he was excited to be part of “something special” with the New Orleans Pelicans. The New Orleans Pelicans are currently tied for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, and if they keep up their performances, they could achieve something special.

“I think we have a very special group,” Williamson said. “I think everybody saw that last year. Great group of guys. Everybody wants to see each other succeed.”

“It’s great to see that,” Williamson said. “I know for me, my first three years, it was always a different cast of guys. To see some vet guys stay around and build something special here, it means a lot. Last season after the final game, I just wanted to be part of something special. Seeing CJ, Larry, some of the other guys stick around, I’m excited for the process.”

Hopefully, we see Zion Williamson win a championship with the New Orleans Pelicans in the future. They definitely have the talent to do so right now, but we’ll see if they’re able to get past the more experienced teams in the conference such as the Phoenix Suns and the Golden State Warriors.

Not a lot of people expected the New Orleans Pelicans to be this good this year, but the Pelicans have been defying one expectation after another. It remains to be seen how far they will go, but with Zion Williamson at his best, anything is possible.
