Russell Westbrook is at a very crucial stage in his career. When he joined the Los Angeles Lakers last season, he was expected to hit the ground running by forming an incredible trio with LeBron James and Anthony Davis.
Unfortunately, that was far from what happened: Brodie didn’t fit well within the Lakers system during his first season with the franchise. Evidently, the Lakers wanted to trade him for a better player, but the organization failed to do so despite trying its best to find a trade for the former NBA MVP.
The situation has now forced them to keep Westbrook on the roster to begin their new campaign. But there are still many doubts around the league about whether Westbrook will start for the Lakers or if he will come off the bench.
Russell Westbrook Breaks Silence About His Role For The New Season
There have been several rumors going around the NBA community about Russ coming off the bench, but we didn’t hear anything from the Lakers guard himself until yesterday when he finally broke his silence about the matter.
Via ESPN:
Westbrook spoke of getting back to work in the gym sooner in the past offseason than he has ever done in his career, about a summer full of conversations with Lakers coach Darvin Ham, about a “connection” and “trust” with Ham’s vision to utilize him in a way that impacts winning on these Lakers.
Maybe that’s as a starter or maybe it’s off the bench. “I’m all-in on whatever it takes for this team to win,” Westbrook said. “I’m prepared for whatever comes my way.”
This is a great response from the former NBA MVP. It seems he has accepted the fact that he needs to make some adjustments to his game if he wants to help the Lakers win it all.
In the same interview, Russ also showed his optimism around the Big 3 of the Lakers. He believes if the Big 3 can actually stay healthy this season, they will simply be unstoppable.
