Stephen Curry Wants Team To Keep The Warriors Core Together Despite Pending Contract Extensions: “We’ve Proven With This Squad What The Results Have Been. We Want To Keep It Together.”

The Golden State Warriors last season surprised many as they cruised to their 4th title in seven seasons. Defeating the odds-on favorites, the Warriors dominated the Celtics and clinched the title in six games.

One of the biggest reasons for their Incredible title run was their deep roster. Consisting of the big three of Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green, the Warriors had players like Andrew Wiggins and Jordan Poole, who made up for an exciting blend of veterans and young stars.

But the Dubs were fortunate as well. Wiggins, who was perhaps the breakout star of the playoffs, was on a team-friendly contract. Jordan Poole, meanwhile, is on a 4-year contract worth only $10 million. Given how these players outperformed their contracts, they will hope to secure a bigger contract which might be a big ask for the Dubs.

Stephen Curry Wants The Warriors Core Team To Stay As Long As Possible

While the Dubs have secured the future of Steph Curry by signing him to a massive extension, the same cannot be said for the other four core members of the Warriors. With Green, Thompson, Wiggins, and Poole all eligible for contract extensions, the Warriors might be in for a wild ride.

Talisman Curry, though, wants to keep the core of the roster together as long as possible. In a recent presser, Steph claimed that the Dubs’ core roster has proven itself.

“We want the best chance to win every single year. We’ve proven with this squad what the results have been. We want to keep it together as long as we can.”

Given that all the players at playing at a very high level, there is a high possibility that all of them will end up asking for a max contract. This will be a very big ask for the Warriors, who are the team with the biggest luxury tax bill in the league.

With one of the highest wage bills in the league already, signing four players to max contracts will be impossible. The Warriors might stay as a unit for the 2022-23 season but come to the 2023 offseason; the contract situation is bound to cause some massive changes to Curry and Co.
