The NBA Is Investigating Ja Morant And Buddy Hield For Making Shooting Motions After The Game

Memphis Grizzlies star Ja Morant is facing scrutiny once again for his actions in last night’s nine-point loss. After the game, Morant was caught making obscure gun gestures toward the Golden State Warriors bench, and now the league is reviewing the scene for any potential violations.

“The NBA is looking into Memphis’ Ja Morant using finger gun motions toward the Golden State Warriors bench last night,” wrote Shams Charania on X.

Ja isn’t the only one under investigation. The league will also look into Warriors guard Buddy Hield, who was exposed for making a gesture before Morant.

“The league’s probe will also look into a gesture by Warriors guard Buddy Hield ahead of Morant,” wrote Shams on X. “League officials will talk to involved parties as soon as Wednesday.”

Several videos captured the events on Tuesday night, but the league doesn’t need any of them to get the story of what happened. Instead, they will likely turn to the officials for a full report after watching it all go down in front of their eyes.

We don’t know how it all started that night, but Morant was clearly frustrated after dropping 36 points in a brutal defeat. He has a bad history with the Warriors, which dates back to their matchup in the 2022 playoffs, so the emotions were already running high.

All it took was some antagonizing from folks like Buddy Hield and Draymond Green to set Morant and his team over the edge. Under normal circumstances, the NBA might just let something like this slide and let both parties walk. In the case of Ja, however, his personal history demands special consideration.

It all began in the summer of 2023 when Ja got suspended for flashing his handgun on Instagram Live. Morant actually slipped up twice before being suspended, but it was just the beginning.

Over the following weeks and months, countless stories emerged about Morant that exposed some of his cruel, violent, and risky lifestyle. He was accused of assault, making threats, and aiming red laser pointers at an opposing team’s players.

Not only did Ja have to take a hiatus from the NBA, but his reputation was completely destroyed. Morant hasn’t been named an All-Star since the 2022-23 season, and many of his previously loyal followers have moved on.

This season, Ja has tried everything to return the Grizzlies to their former glory, but between a new offense and disagreements in strategy, this season was practically doomed from the start for Memphis.

After losing their fourth straight game, the Grizzlies are barely holding the sixth seed in the West, and their current trajectory could put them as low as eighth in the standings by the time it’s all said and done.

Whether or not Morant gets punished by the NBA, his latest scandal is a really bad look for the young point guard, and he really should be smarter about what kind of moves he makes in front of the cameras. Fortunately, nobody is expecting any kind of major response from the league, and Ja should be able to play on without any major issues.
