Dwight Howard is waiting for an NBA team to pick up the phone and give him a contract for the upcoming 2022-23 season. Howard has teetered on the edge of being out of the league for a while now but his performance for the Lakers in 2019-20 extended his stay in the NBA.
His performance in the 2021-22 season was nothing to brag home about, so interest has been low. He has been linked with teams like the Boston Celtics and Brooklyn Nets. But could Howard join a whole other sport like the WWE next? After attending a WWE try-out in July, WWE Chief Content Officer Paul Levesque, better known as Triple H isn’t opposed to having Howard join the wrestling business as other celebrities have.
“When he says, ‘Hey, I want to give this a shot,’ he’s got my phone number. All he’s got to do is call me, and we’ll see what can happen,” he told Sporting News. “If he’s willing to put in the grind and drive that guys like Logan Paul and Bad Bunny and Tyson Fury are willing to put in, then let’s go.”
“It’s a funny thing. Dwight, in the conversations we had, was like, ‘I really want to do this, I’m serious. I really want to do this. But we hear that a lot. And there’s a difference between saying, ‘I want to do this,’ and putting the grind and doing the work to get there. Came by our tryouts in Nashville, was incredibly entertaining, jumping in promos by himself and then with others. Incredibly entertaining, really driven to want to do this. It’s just a matter for him of, he’s got a lot of things going on, right?” (h/t Fox News)

Should Dwight Howard Call It Quits On His NBA Career?
If Dwight Howard finds a team for the upcoming season, it will be his 19th year in the NBA. Along with LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony, Howard is one of the oldest active players in the NBA and has been near-retirement for years now.
Howard definitely still has something to offer as a lob threat and defensive presence on the court. he can’t run up and down the court like he once used to but he can be extremely effective in a limited role if a team can offer him that.
With the injury concerns for Robert Williams III in Boston, Howard might be the perfect backup center that the Celtics can get on the open market right now. Maybe that is where Howard ends up for the season and possibly retires at the end of the year and pursues his dreams in the world of WWE.
