Tom Brady is the undisputed GOAT of the NFL at the moment, especially after he clinched his 7th Super Bowl ring. The quarterback is a living legend and one of the attributes of his case to be considered the GOAT is his insane longevity. Brady is playing at the highest level at the age of 45, something that is almost impossible to fathom considering that a lot of athletes in contact sports barely make it into their late 30s.

And this brings similarities to LeBron James, who is currently 37 and still looks to be in excellent shape. LeBron is in the GOAT conversation, but he still needs a few rings to his name to be considered so by a majority of NBA fans. As such, Brady’s career will be a great inspiration to him, he won 4 of his Super Bowls after an age when most had predicted his career to be over.

Tom Brady Joked About Him And LeBron James Being Similar Athletes

Tom Brady and LeBron James may be comparable when it comes to their achievements and standing in the sport, but they are fundamentally different in terms of what makes them elite. LeBron James has long been considered one of the greatest pure athletes ever, his physical attributes are borderline unbelievable.

Tom Brady is the opposite, he’s hardly the most athletic player on the field at any point. This is why when he joked about being similar to the King in that regard, it was quite funny.

“LeBron James is a much better athlete than me”

“We’re similar athletes, LeBron and I, both great size and speed, jumping ability, shooting… not quite. Nah, he’s a much better athlete than me.”

The entire clip seems to be Brady being quite aware of the fact that he is being funny when he compares his athleticism to LBJ’s. The two do share traits that would be considered similar, they’re cool under pressure and focused on making the right plays. And their presence often intimidates opponents just as much as their elite skillset does.

There have been very few basketball players to play in the NBA in their 40s, and even those have only enjoyed greatly diminished roles. But LeBron has proven to be the exception to many rules at every level he has played at, so it wouldn’t be surprising to see him dominate late in his career as Brady has. And considering that he wishes to play with his sons, it’s likely he’ll at least give it a shot.
