Draymond Green is one of the best defensive players in the league, and there’s an argument that he may be the best defender of this generation of players. Draymond Green helped the Golden State Warriors revolutionize the game of basketball. His multi-positional defense and leadership on that end of the floor have helped the team win four championships during the Stephen Curry era.
One of the things that Draymond Green is well-known for is being a player that always pushes the boundary between a legal play and a foul. We have often seen him get in referees’ faces during games to try and influence them for favorable calls for himself and his teammates.
Draymond Green Thinks The Referees Have A Different Set Of Rules For Him
On an episode of the Checc’n In podcast on Caffeine TV, Draymond Green claimed that the referees officiate him differently from other players, claiming that there’s a “Draymond Green rules” that they follow when it comes to him. He brought up an incident that featured Evan Mobley kicking LeBron James in the head, claiming that it didn’t receive the same vitriol as him hitting LeBron James in the groin during the 2016 NBA Finals.
“There’s Draymond Green rules,” Green said. “There’s 100 percent Draymond Green rules. Evan Mobley did the same exact thing and kicked LeBron in the head, ain’t nobody talking about wanting to kick him out, ain’t nobody talking like it was [on] purpose.”

Obviously, the 2016 NBA Finals were obviously a higher stage than a regular season game between the Cavaliers and the Lakers, and it is easy to see why a lot of people reacted strongly to Draymond Green hitting LeBron James’ groin. Draymond Green getting a suspension was certainly warranted at the time, though many Warriors fans will argue otherwise due to it potentially costing the team a championship in 2016.
However, every player should be officiated the same way, and that is no different for Draymond Green. Hopefully, we see the officials improve their calls all around next season and not officiate certain players in a different manner. Obviously, a lot of players feel as though the referees use a different set of rules to officiate them, and Draymond Green is among their number.
As of right now, Draymond Green is likely getting ready to defend the Golden State Warriors 2022 championship. If the team is to repeat as champions, they will need him to be sharp as the anchor of their defense while also making elite plays to help Stephen Curry get open on offense. Hopefully, we see Draymond Green have another productive year, and perhaps we’ll see him make another All-Star team next season.
