Stephen A. Smith has been making headlines for all the wrong reasons amid his feud with LeBron James. Smith’s most notable blunders were claiming James didn’t attend Kobe Bryant’s memorial and criticizing him for not being at Dwyane Wade’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Well, it turns out he has said that in the past too, just in a far worse manner, as an old clip from The Stephen A. Smith Show resurfaced recently.

“Why do you think I was so upset when LeBron James wasn’t at Dwyane Wade’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony?” Smith asked. “I still can’t believe that wasn’t a big enough story. Supposed to be your brother. Now, I understand Bronny James had the heart ailment. Thank god he’s okay.

“But from my understanding, he [LeBron] traveled over the summer,” Smith continued. “And I’m not LeBron James and I don’t get to take private jets that often, but occasionally I do. And I happen to know, you could’ve had time to fly in for the Hall of Fame induction of your brother.

“I promise you this and it’s a prognostication, it’s a prediction,” Smith continued. “LeBron James’ day comes and he’s inducted into the Hall of Fame, D-Wade will be there. There’s a lot that we don’t talk about with LeBron James.

“Remember when the memorial service took place for Kobe Bryant? I can’t believe I didn’t see him there,” Smith added. “Magic [Johnson] was there, [Michael] Jordan was there, [Shaquille O’Neal] was there, Steph Curry was there, Wade was there. The NBA community was in attendance. We didn’t see LeBron James.”

All this is just astonishingly bad. First of all, Smith stated on First Take earlier this month that he had never brought up these two topics, and that was clearly not the truth.

As for what Smith had to say, it was unbelievably insensitive. Bronny James had suffered a cardiac arrest on July 24, 2023, and Smith was upset about LeBron not taking a private jet to attend Wade’s induction on Aug. 12, 2023.

There was less than a month between the two events, and Smith still had a problem with James not being at the ceremony. That’s just ridiculous, and the fact is he still feels the same way.

Now, just imagine the narrative if James had shown up for the ceremony while Bronny was still recovering. He’d have been hammered by some for being front and center at the event instead of being by his ailing son’s side. The man just can’t win no matter what he does.

As for the Bryant comment, Smith did admit that he got that wrong. LeBron did attend the memorial but had reportedly requested that he not be filmed. All Smith had to do was do some research, and he wouldn’t have been left with egg on his face.

Smith has shot himself in the foot time and time again in recent weeks, and you’d wish he’d just stay quiet for a while. That’s just not in his DNA, though, but at least he isn’t talking about his issues with James anymore.
