With the first week of September almost in the books now, the wait is almost over for the latest installment of NBA 2K. Each year, in the weeks leading up to release, the game is advertised and teased to build hype and generate some buzz about the project.
The process has been the same this summer as well, with 2K releasing trailers, gameplay footage, and player ratings ahead of the 9th. And while it has mostly been successful in building up anticipation, this year’s three-point ratings also brought back some criticism from a powerful NBA voice: Warriors sharpshooter Klay Thompson.
After finding out what 2K gave him for his three-point rating, Thompson took to Instagram to express his feelings.

When it comes to shooting, Stephen Curry is always at the top, and not even 2K tried to deny that. With a 99 overall 3-point rating, Steph is pretty far ahead of the field in the business of knocking shots down from distance.
But Thompson isn’t too far behind his teammate. With career averages of 19.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 2.3 assists per game on 45.8% shooting, he’s a bonafide star who deserves to be recognized for his accuracy from deep. To rank him 88th, tied with Desmond Bane and Luke Kennard, is certainly questionable, to say the least.
Just his shooting in practices has a tendency to impress his teammates.
Warriors’ rookie Moses Moody has put some of the worries around his sharpness to rest with his latest comments. In a recent interview, Moody spoke about seeing Thompson work out and practice his shooting in person.
Moody found it to be a surreal experience watching Klay, one of the best shooters in NBA history, practice in front of him. And he also revealed that Thompson rarely even let the ball touch the rim, finding almost nothing but net.
“Man, it looks different in person, that was obviously my first time seeing it,” said Moody. “But watching that repetition, that exact same shot every one, I mean I sat there & watched him shoot for 20 minutes, and it didn’t touch the rim a lot, I can tell you that.”
While Steph rules from range, Klay shouldn’t be overlooked for his expertise in the area. As a consistent and dependable shoot-maker who can score points in bunches, Klay Thompson is not a guy that the opposition should take lightly.
This season, if the Warriors are to come out successful in their quest to repeat as champs, Klay will have to be at the top of his game with the challenges growing rapidly in number.
