Montrezl Harrell Is Signing A Two-Year Deal With The Philadelphia 76ers

The Philadelphia 76ers are extremely serious about making a run this season. With James Harden taking a pay cut on his contract to help Daryl Morey build the roster, the idea is for the Sixers to finally make a really deep run in the playoffs. And in service of that, they have already acquired PJ Tucker and Danuel House, both excellent rotational pieces for a title run.

Joel Embiid is undisputedly the star of the show in Philly. The big man has put in multiple seasons where he has performed like an MVP, although the award has gone to Nikola Jokic on both occasions. And while Embiid is arguably the best starting center in the league, there isn’t much in terms of backup the Sixers can throw on when he’s off the floor. His injury issues also make it something for them to think about.

The team tried Dwight Howard for a season in 2020-21, but that didn’t quite work out, and there hasn’t been a more permanent option in that role yet. The free agent market seems to have provided an answer, though, and it’s a player that Head Coach Doc Rivers is already quite familiar with.

Montrezl Harrell Will Sign A Two-Year Deal With The Philadelphia 76ers

The free agent market has had some interesting names on it for a while. And while a lot of those moves were held up thanks to Kevin Durant’s situation in Brooklyn, the Sixers have landed themselves one now. Montrezl Harrell is becoming the latest roster addition in Philly, as reported by Adrian Wojnarowski.

Harrell had charges of marijuana trafficking reduced to a misdemeanor possession in a Madison County (KY) Courthouse recently. Charge will be expunged from his record after 12 months if Harrell gets in no further legal trouble.

“Free agent C Montrezl Harrell is signing two-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, including a player option. Harrell brings more toughness to a team searching for it this offseason. He was Sixth Man of the Year with Doc Rivers/Sam Cassell in 2019-2020 w/ Clippers.

“Harrell had charges of marijuana trafficking reduced to a misdemeanor possession in a Madison County (KY) Courthouse recently. Charge will be expunged from his record after 12 months if Harrell gets in no further legal trouble.”

Harrell was facing some issues with law enforcement in the offseason, but that seems to have gone away now. Despite being an undersized center, he brings good offense and a lot of hustle to any team. Having performed at an elite level for Doc Rivers when they were both with the Clippers, he is a known quantity to the Coach. This could prove to be another astute signing by the Sixers.
