After months of drama, things have finally settled down a little bit within the Brooklyn Nets organization. Kevin Durant is staying, and so is Kyrie Irving, while Ben Simmons is looking in great shape as he looks to make his Nets debut next season. GM Sean Marks and head coach Steve Nash are also not going anywhere just yet, so there is some much-needed continuity within their ranks as they look for a bounce-back season.
One of the big reasons why the Nets failed last season, to go with all the tension behind the scenes, was that they didn’t have a reliable big man. They tried out Blake Griffin, LaMarcus Aldridge, Andre Drummond, and Nic Claxton, but none of those individuals really made their mark on the team.

Considering their failures in making much of an impact, Griffin, Aldridge, and Drummond were all let go, with Claxton the only one remaining, and the Nets extended the youngster as well this offseason. They also added Markieff Morris to their roster as they were short on big bodies after all those departures, and NBA insider Kristian Winfield while discussing the options for the Nets at center, reported that they are looking to trade for one, with Myles Turner being a name that has been floated around.

“So, I think that either A. we are going to see Nic Claxton start, or B. the Nets are going to use that mid-level or trade for another center. I’m pretty sure they are still trying to trade for a center. I’m just not sure who at this point. I’ve heard Myles Turner, but I guess we’ll find out if they are actually able to.”
Turner would be a great addition, and it is no secret at this point that he is on the trading block. He would get the Nets some much-needed rim protection, and unlike Claxton, he isn’t a disaster from the free throw line, either.
If the Nets do acquire Turner, then you would be hard-pressed to find any major flaws in that roster. They already have a lot of fine offensive talent, and some elite defenders like Turner and Ben Simmons can help mask some of their deficiencies on the other end. Even if they fail to trade for Turner, the Nets do have a very good roster on paper, and if they can remain drama-free next season, then perhaps they will finally fulfill their potential as a group, but that is a lot easier said than done.
