We continue to rank the best 25 players at each position with our rankings of the NBA’s shooting guards heading into next season. The shooting guard position once boasted some of the greatest players in the game. Right now, it has maybe 1 or 2 elite players mixed in with some role players and potential breakout All-Stars. Don’t get me wrong, the future is bright for NBA shooting guards, but we seem to be waiting for many to take the next step.

The rankings you see here today are merely a prediction and based mostly on what we saw in 2022. A particular rookie drafted this past summer even makes the list based on his potential and projected usage headed into the upcoming year. There are a few mainstays on the list as guys like Devin Booker, Paul George, and James Harden have been towards the top of the NBA shooting guards for quite some time. Then there are the players that have either begun to ascend toward their peak or have started to show their real potential, like Tyler Herro and Desmond Bane. Without giving away any more names, let’s get into our list.

Here are the Top 25 shooting guards for the 2022-23 season.

25. Caris LeVert

'Multiple' Cleveland Cavaliers Members Would Keep Caris LeVert On The Team Over Collin Sexton

2021-22 Stats: 17.0 PPG, 3.7 RPG, 4.3 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.3 BPG

Caris LeVert comes in at No. 24 on our list and is another player that we could be too low on. He brings a great set of basketball instincts and versatile scoring to a young and hungry Cavaliers team looking to improve on a great 2021-22. Armed with an actual full training camp and off-season after coming back from cancer, LeVert could be back to his high-scoring days with the Brooklyn Nets. His handles and scoring ability mixed with his playmaking gives him the capability to run the offense when Darius Garland needs a breather or when he’s heavily guarded.

Undoubtedly as we saw last season, LeVert brings a playmaking and scoring element to an offense that could look stagnant at times, especially the second unit. Armed with more time to get acclimated around his Cleveland teammates and system, LeVert has a chance to be a big part of the Cavs success moving forward. This holds to be even more true if Cleveland decides not to bring back Collin Sexton. Look for LeVert to be more effective this year than in his last 19 games with the Cavs last season.

24. Collin Sexton

NBA Insider States Collin Sexton Is Unlikely To Hold Out Of Training Camp Despite Not Getting An Extension

2021-22 Stats: 16.0 PPG, 3.3 RPG, 2.1 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.0 BPG

After only seeing 11 games worth of action last season before tearing his ACL, Collin Sexton comes in at No. 23 on our list. At this point, Sexton is still awaiting to sign with a team but wherever he goes and if he is healthy, will be sure to make a positive impact. The 11 games that we saw him in didn’t exactly leave us wanting more but if we know anything about Sexton, it’s that he can and will bounce back.

His 24.4% shooting from 3-point range was concerning, but as we know, it was way too small of a sample size to believe that it will continue. Sexton is confident in his skills as he should be and has found success before in several ways by scoring the ball. He can shoot despite the numbers, he can finish at the rim with high efficiency, and he has success attacking out of the pick and roll. After being sent to Utah as a part of the Donovan Mitchell trade, Sexton signed a 4-year/$72 million deal with the Jazz. He should have a significant role as a No. 1 or No. 2 option in 2022-23.

23. Jordan Clarkson

Jordan Clarkson

2021-22 Stats: 16.0 PPG, 3.5 RPG, 2.5 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.2 BPG

Jordan Clarkson comes into 2022-23 just 2 years removed from his Sixth Man of the Year award season. His upcoming role in the new season is still a bit unclear considering the way the Jazz have opened up the floodgates with trade talks and Donovan Mitchell could still be moved. Heck, Clarkson can still be moved. There are a few things that Clarkson’s stance among shooting guards depends on if he would like to move up this list.

Clarkson’s game is predicated on two things. His game is mostly perimeter based, so he will have to improve on his low mark of 31.8% shooting from three. It did improve to 37.5% in the playoffs, so we know the potential is there. Also, he needs to be a bit more aggressive attacking the basket where he finishes 62.7% of the time. If he can work on a more consistent outside game and get to his spots from mid to medium-range, it will take a good amount of pressure off of Utah in 2022-23.

22. Alex Caruso

Alex Caruso Reveals The Shocking Reason Why The NBA Wouldn’t Let Him Switch Jersey Numbers: "It's Because I'm A Top 75 Jersey-Seller"

2021-22 Stats: 7.4 PPG, 3.6 RPG, 4.0 APG, 1.7 SPG, 0.4 BPG

Alex Caruso missed half of the season in 2021-22 after a cheap shot from Grayson Allen and what he brings to the table was sorely missed by the Chicago Bulls because of it. The way Caruso impacts a game is incredible considering he’s known more for his defense than anything on offense. Although, as a slasher and playmaker, he contributes his fair share off the bench. Caruso is a savage on defense that ranked 6th in the league in steals per 100 possessions.

He isn’t afraid to get his hands dirty with his on-ball defense, often getting right up in an opponent’s face and forcing them into bad decisions. Off-ball defense is just as, if not more, impressive. His peripheral vision is special, and he anticipates passes at an impressive rate. He does have his moments as an outside shooter as well, shooting 33.3% on 3.1 attempts per game. Look for Caruso to make a large difference in Chicago’s place in the standings in 2022-23. That is if Grayson Allen can stay away from him.

21. Seth Curry

Seth Curry

2021-22 Stats: 15.0 PPG, 3.1 RPG, 3.6 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.2 BPG

Coming off a 2021-22 season that saw him split time between Philadelphia and Brooklyn, Seth Curry is ready to have a more solidified role this upcoming year. Some may consider the younger Curry brother to be one-dimensional, but when you’re as effective and accurate as Seth Curry is in that dimension, your value significantly increases. What makes his shooting so effective is not just his 44.2% shooting from deep over the last 5 years, but his ability to hit the shot in different ways. He is incredibly lethal when he is coming off a screen or on a drive and dish set three, but he can also put the ball on the floor and pull up at a high rate.

With Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving set to return to Brooklyn along with Ben Simmons, you would be hard-pressed to find a better shooter you want complimenting them than Curry. With all the attention on those guys, Curry will have ample opportunity to convert his fair share of attempts from deep. We all know how well the Currys move without the ball and that will prove to be a huge advantage for Seth in this upcoming season. One word of advice for opposing teams: don’t let the man get into a groove.

20. Bogdan Bogdanovic

bogdan bogdanovic

2021-22 Stats: 15.1 PPG, 4.0 RPG, 3.1 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.2 BPG

Bogdan Bogdanovic comes into the 2021-22 season with a similar role to 2021. He most likely will come off of the bench for the Hawks this season as a perfect fit for the reserve squad. Bogdanovic brings even more confidence to his game to a team that certainly doesn’t lack in that department. In 2021, Bogdanovic shot the second-lowest mark of his career from three at 36.8%. Look for that to increase in 2022-23, given that pressure will be alleviated from him with more weapons added to the team.

Bogdanovic should be able to focus on what he does best. That is creating his shot as a spot-up shooter and getting himself into isolation sets. Bogdanovic will be one of the main bucket-getters of the second group for the Hawks and build on what he started last season. He should also get more opportunities off the ball on offense given the playmaking that will come from a Dejounte Murray or Trae Young, depending on who they run with the second group.

19. Luguentz Dort

Luguentz Dort

2021-22 Stats: 17.2 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 1.7 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.4 BPG

Luguentz Dort is coming off of the best season of his young career despite missing 31 games due to injury. He averaged a career-high 17.2 PPG with a career-high field goal percentage of 40.4%. After signing a massive extension in the offseason with the Thunder, Dort will be looking to prove that he was worth the long-term risk for Oklahoma City. His offensive game needs a bit of work as he has the tendency to take too many contested shots, but it is on the other end of the floor that he will be the difference maker.

Dort uses his length and tenacious mentality to take on the challenge of defending an opponent’s best perimeter weapon. In 2021, he was tasked with taking on bigger and more skilled offensive matchups. He responded well and began to improve on both ends before going down with a torn labrum that ended his season. Dort will be expected to be the Thunder’s best two-way player in 2022-23 and beyond. If he can get his efficiency up and continue to be a pest on defense, he could potentially be ranked much higher on our list next season.

18. Jalen Green

Jalen Green

2021-22 Stats: 17.3 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 2.6 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.3 BPG

Jalen Green is coming off of a rookie season that saw him struggle to adjust in the early going but managed to come alive in a big way for the last 6 weeks of the season. It proved to be tough for Green at the start as he struggled somewhat to adjust to the pace and physicality of the NBA. In his last 25 games, however, Green stepped it up, averaging 22.0 PPG on 47.8% shooting overall and 39.3% from deep.

Many NBA fans drool over Green for his athletic ability, but Green showed vast improvement and skill in other areas. His shot creation took a huge step as he was able to find more success from beyond the paint as the season wore on and he returned healthy from a hamstring injury. His willingness to pass up the shot and give up the ball became more apparent by the end of the year as well. Green is just 20 years old, so if he continues to make the necessary adjustments to the NBA, he and the Houston Rockets should be just fine headed into the future. Expect things to take longer than the 2022-23 season, though.

17. Anfernee Simons

Anfernee Simons

2021-22 Stats: 17.3 PPG, 2.6 RPG, 3.9 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.1 BPG

With teammate Damian Lillard on the shelf for most of the season, Anfernee Simons got a chance to showcase his talent in 2022. Simons showed he was ready to take the next step in his NBA career and form an exciting backcourt with Lillard set to return in 2022-23. One of the most impressive parts of Simons’ game happened to be his three-point shooting. Simons shot 40.5% from three on 7.8 attempts per game, both career-high shooting numbers.

Simons thrives in two situations. In pick-and-roll situations, he has one of the highest offensive ratings in the league. His ability to adapt to different defenses when confronted with them in these situations can be attributed to his spot-up shooting efficiency and his ability to find his open cutters or shooters. He became a top tough-shotmaker this past season as well, with less than half his attempts coming when he was open. Simons could be a real threat for the NBA’s Most Improved Player award this year if he gets more opportunity considering the attention that Lillard will command upon his return.

16. Gary Trent Jr.

Gary Trent Jr.

2021-22 Stats: 18.3 PPG, 2.7 RPG, 2.0 APG, 1.7 SPG, 0.3 BPG

Gary Trent Jr.’s development throughout the 2021-22 season was something special to watch as he contributed mightily to the Raptors’ success. His scoring numbers were the best of his career at 18.3 PPG and he had the second-highest field goal percentage of his career at 41.4%. Where Trent made major improvements on his game was on the defensive side of the ball. Trent showed much more tenacity on that end and it concluded with him swiping 122 total steals, which was good for 4th in the league.

Looking forward to 2022-23, Trent Jr. is going to be even more integral to Toronto’s success. With his game beginning to flourish and potential continuing to grow, Trent has become a major piece alongside Pascal Siakam, Fred VanVleet, and Scottie Barnes. After showing significant growth in his shot selection in 2021-22, one can only conclude that it will continue to get better from here. Toronto surprised a lot of people last year with their run to the postseason. With Trent Jr. on the team, look for that ceiling to be raised just a bit more.

15. Terry Rozier

Terry Rozier

2021-22 Stats: 19.3 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 4.5 APG, 1.3 SPG, 0.3 BPG

Since handing over point guard duties to LaMelo Ball, Terry Rozier has still produced at a high level and remained a team leader. Rozier’s output of nearly 20.0 PPG and shooting 37.4% from three have given the Hornets much more flexibility when it comes to roster construction moving forward. Both he and Ball can alternate at the point while having both of them on the court give the team versatility offensively that they desperately need.

Look for Rozier to keep up his near 20.0 PPG production for the hornets in 2022-23. With the absence of Miles Bridges, the Hornets need another scorer who can take the pressure off of LaMelo. Rozier will continue to be one of Charlotte’s main offensive options while being an off-ball pest on defense, accounting for his 1.3 SPG. Hornets fans can expect Rozier to remain a solid 20.0 PPG scorer for them while hopefully being able to take on more of a facilitator role moving forward.

14. Tyler Herro

Tyler Herro

2021-22 Stats: 20.7 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 4.0 APG, 0.7 SPG, 0.1 BPG

After a somewhat down year in 2021, Tyler Herro bounced back in a big way for the Miami Heat in 2022. He was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year, averaging 20.7 PPG on career-high efficiency from all over the court. He shot 39.9% from deep and 44.7% overall, helping the Miami Heat reach the Eastern Conference Finals for the 2nd time in 3 years. Miami and Coach Erik Spoelstra have entrusted Herro to do much more than in his first 2 seasons and it paid off in a big way.

Herro still has a few areas he needs to improve in, but as in most cases, those things come with time. His scoring is valuable to a team that has battled injury and COVID-19 issues the past few seasons. He added 8 30+ point games this season, 4 more than teammate Bam Adebayo recorded. The way Herro has matured and embraced the bench role has earned the respect of teammates and coaches alike. As he keeps improving, look for Miami’s results and his price tag to increase headed into an extension-eligible season.

13. Klay Thompson

Klay Thompson

2021-22 Stats: 20.4 PPG, 3.9 RPG, 2.8 APG, 0.5 SPG, 0.5 BPG

The ending to the 2021-22 season was a storybook one for Klay Thompson. After missing the past 2 seasons with separate lower leg injuries, Klay returned to give the Golden State Warriors the boost they needed to win the NBA championship. The NBA Finals was the most promising sign looking ahead for Thompson. One of the main concerns for most people was Klay’s ability to still defend on the perimeter at a high level. We wondered if his knees would hold up or if he would be able to maintain the same side-to-side agility he once had.

He proved to be just fine by the time the NBA Finals concluded, but many still wondered about his shot selection and endurance. Being further away from his injury in 2022-23 can only point to the chance that Klay comes back even better next season. As one of the greatest shooters ever, we can’t expect him to shoot sub 40.0% from three again as he did last year as he became acclimated to NBA play again. We can also expect his defense to continue to get better and possibly emerge as the top 3-and-D guy in the NBA again. If Klay does get better and is back to even 80% of his old self, that spells trouble for the rest of the league and the Warriors could be hoisting their 5th trophy in 9 years.

12. Desmond Bane

Desmond Bane

2021-22 Stats: 18.2 PPG, 4.4 RPG, 2.7 APG, 1.2 SPG, 0.4 BPG

Desmond Bane’s huge second-year leap in 2021-22 was the catalyst for the Memphis Grizzlies to have their best season in franchise history. Bane was a serious challenger to teammate Ja Morant as the NBA’s Most Improved Player as he improved drastically in every statistical category. One glaring improvement has been his ability to shoot the long ball whether he’s creating for himself or working for a shot off the ball. Bane shot 43.6% from three on 6.9 attempts per game and is on track to possibly become the NBA’s next great marksman.

Don’t attribute all of his success to his three-point shooting, though. Bane showed many times his ability to blow by defenders for a stop and pop jumper or a finish at the rim. His defensive effort was a big boost to a young Memphis group that prided itself on that side of the ball. He became Memphis’ primary wing defender when Dillon Brooks was out and his win shares skyrocketed because of it. If Memphis is going to take things a step further in 2022-23, Desmond Bane will have to be just as or even more productive than in 2021-22, and I think he has shown we should not doubt him.

11. Jordan Poole

Jordan Poole

2021-22 Stats: 18.5 PPG, 3.4 RPG, 4.0 APG, 0.8 SPG, 0.3 BPG

Jordan Poole made a leap in 2021-22 that not many expected to come so soon. He became a legitimate three-point threat, as well as someone who showed creativity with the ball in his hands to get his buckets. Poole finished 4th in Most Improved Player voting and with good reason. After a few trips back and forth to the G-League, Poole became a big contributor to the championship won by the Golden State Warriors.

With his confidence increasing and his game thriving because of it, Jordan Poole has become such an important part of what Golden State does that he may be irreplaceable. He thrives in Golden State’s system that favors the involvement of combo guards which Poole is proving to be. Headed into 2022-23, expect Poole to have an even bigger role in the Warriors’ game plan. He is beloved already by teammates and coaches, proven by the way they have entrusted him in big and late-game situations. More often than not, Poole has delivered and you can expect him to do so as we move forward.

10. Dejounte Murray

Dejounte Murray

2021-22 Stats 21.1 PPG, 8.3 RPG, 9.2 APG, 2.0 SPG, 0.3 BPG

Dejounte Murray heads into 2022-23, ready to finally compete with a contender as he joins the Atlanta Hawks. Many around the league believe Murray could be the perfect compliment to Trae Young in the backcourt and with good reason. While Young’s struggles on defense are well documented, Murray is coming off of a season in which he led the NBA in SPG with 2.0. Murray has consistently improved his game every season, so to think he can adapt to playing alongside a playmaker and scorer like Young should be an easy conclusion.

What was even better about the Murray deal for Atlanta was that they didn’t need to give up any impactful NBA talent right now. If Trae can improve his play off the ball and allow Murray to handle the ball a good amount, it should be a recipe for success. Murray’s assist-to-turnover ratio and playmaking are on par or slightly below Trae’s, so it isn’t a detriment to the team in any way. Murray’s efficiency numbers also have improved, making him at the very least another capable scorer on a roster full of them. I for one cannot wait to see the Murray-Young duo in action.

9. CJ McCollum

CJ McCollum

2021-22 Stats: 22.1 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 5.1 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.4 BPG

CJ McCollum is headed into his first full season with the New Orleans Pelicans and expectations are through the roof. In his 26 games with New Orleans last season, McCollum averaged 24.3 PPG and 5.8 APG, which were improved on from his time in Portland. He then led the Pelicans to the playoffs, where the team showcased how they just may be ready to take the next step. With the return of Zion Williamson and the continued growth of Brandon Ingram, McCollum is primed to lead this team to new heights.

CJ McCollum has always been a capable scorer, but now, as the man with the ball primarily in his hands, he has become much more. Of course, his scoring is still tremendous as his 24.3 PPG would have been a career-high had it been with New Orleans the whole season. He also would have had a career-high true shooting percentage at 58.5%. Where he looks to continue to thrive is in his playmaking and getting teammates involved. As previously mentioned, with Zion and Ingram sharing the floor, that shouldn’t be an issue whatsoever.

8. Bradley Beal

Bradley Beal

2021-22 Stats: 23.2 PPG, 4.7 RPG, 6.6 APG, 0.9 SPG, 0.4 BPG

After injury cost Bradley Beal over half of the 2021-22 season, he looks to bounce back in a big way in 2022-23. He signed a massive contract extension with the Wizards in the offseason and now has to go make it worth it on the court. Scoring has never been an issue with Beal, but after back-to-back seasons of over 30.0 PPG, Beal’s production dipped a bit in 2022. When healthy, he is as reliable as anyone in basketball to score in a variety of ways and you can expect that again in 2022-23.

Beal needs to return to his roots to find more success next season and it shouldn’t be that major of an adjustment. If he can return to taking more spot-up shots, it should prove to be more beneficial to the Wizards’ offense. His playmaking has improved nicely, as well as he has been more willing to trust his teammates and get them involved on the scoring side of things. His career-high 6.6 APG in 2021-22 is evidence that he is capable of giving more effort on that front. Beal and the Wizards are caught in the midst of serious growth in the Eastern Conference so their record may once again not reflect Beal’s full talent and impact.

7. Donovan Mitchell

Donovan Mitchell Trade Was Negotiated By New York Knicks Basketball Advisor Gersson Rosas Instead Of Leon Rose

2021-22 Stats: 25.9 PPG, 4.2 RPG, 5.3 APG, 1.5 SPG, 0.2 BPG

Mitchell continued to show how polished he is on the offensive side of the ball, using his athleticism and wingspan to do things others at the position can’t. Mitchell’s speed is one of his greatest weapons, using a deadly first step to blow by defenders, forcing opponents to keep help in the paint, and creating space for teammates. His catch and shoot ability, especially from three, again is some of the best in basketball, ranking 15th in the league among players who take at least 2.5 catch and shoot attempts per game.

Earlier this week, Mitchell was finally dealt to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Mitchell’s role with the team will be a vital one to the team’s success. The only concern comes on the defensive end where both members of Cleveland’s backcourt are now both 6’1 and less than average defenders. Offensively, it can prove to be special with Mitchell shouldering the brunt of the scoring load at times. Mitchell’s addition to the Cavaliers could catapult them to a Top 5 seed in the Eastern Conference if all goes well.

6. Zach LaVine

Zach LaVine

2021-22 Stats: 24.4 PPG, 4.6 RPG, 4.5 APG, 0.6 SPG, 0.3 BPG

Over the past few seasons, Zach LaVine has done a great job of smashing any notions that he is only an athletic dunker. The 2021-22 season was no different as he helped lead the Bulls to the playoffs alongside new teammate DeMar DeRozan. It was LaVine’s first trip to the postseason in his career and one of his healthier seasons in recent memory. How he has adapted his game over the past few years has been remarkable.

Zach LaVine is yet another shooting guard with a wildly fast first step using his freak athleticism and elite handles to create easy shots regularly. His game opened up a bit this year due to the arrival of DeRozan and his maturity to give up some ball control on offense was crucial to Chicago’s success and playoff run. If LaVine continues to shoot the ball from deep at a high clip and create shots for himself and others, then there is no reason the Bulls won’t be back in playoff contention and beyond.

5. Anthony Edwards

Anthony Edwards

2021-22 Stats: 21.3 PPG, 4.8 RPG, 3.8 APG, 1.5 SPG, 0.6 BPG

As Anthony Edwards’ career continues to trend upward, you can expect a monstrous 3rd season out of the 20-year-old. An area that Edwards continues to improve vastly on is his shooting. We already know how special his athleticism is, but his shooting has come along as a close 2nd as his best weapon. He has improved his shot-making and creation from everywhere on the floor, showing large improvements in his true shooting and eFG%. One thing for certain is that Edwards is built for the big stage and moments.

For Minnesota this season, Edwards is the key to a team with high expectations. All eyes will be on the newly acquired Rudy Gobert and mainstay Karl-Anthony Towns, but the focus should be on Edwards and his continued growth. Edwards has the potential to be a Top 3 shooting guard in the league by the season’s end while Minnesota looks to be much more than a first-round exit.

4. James Harden

James Harden

2021-22 Stats: 22.0 PPG, 7.7 RPG, 10.3 APG, 1.2 SPG, 0.2 BPG

The 2021-22 season was an up and down one for James Harden as he transitioned from Brooklyn to Philadelphia, but by the end, it seemed he had returned to his former self. At least for a little bit, anyway. For the 3rd year in a row, Harden finished the season with 10.0 APG or more as he developed an on the court chemistry with Joel Embiid and other Sixers teammates. Harden can still shoot the ball very well, but his biggest improvement as the season went on was he wasn’t hunting fouls as much as he was in Brooklyn.

As we move ahead to 2022-23, Harden has shown he wants to win more than anything as he took a pay cut in order to stay with Philly and give them some financial flexibility to build a better roster. To keep a player of Harden’s caliber long-term alongside Embiid and the rest of the Sixers roster was by far their biggest offseason move. I predict Harden to have a big bounce-back year and to prove the naysayers wrong that say he is on the decline. If he does turn back the clock a bit, look for the Sixers to be legitimate title contenders by the end of the year.

3. Jaylen Brown

Jaylen Brown

2021-22 Stats: 23.6 PPG, 6.1 RPG, 3.5 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.3 BPG

Watching Jaylen Brown play in the 2021-22 season makes you wonder why Boston would ever entertain any trade package that involves him. This past season, all questions of if he and Jayson Tatum could mesh well enough on the court together were answered emphatically. Tatum was great, but Brown was the glue that held Boston together on their way to the NBA Finals. He was their most consistent player on offense while being a key perimeter defender as well.

His name may have been tossed around in trade rumors again this offseason, but for now at least, Jaylen Brown is staying in Beantown. That should be music to Celtics fans’ ears as he continues to prove his worth as a scorer, defender, and playmaker. With Brown staying, it means that Boston should be considered among the favorites in the Eastern Conference to return to the NBA Finals once again.

2. Paul George

Paul George

2021-22 Stats: 24.3 PPG, 6.9 RPG, 5.7 APG, 2.2 SPG, 0.4 BPG

Injuries held Paul George to just 312 games in 2021-22, but a big comeback year is on the horizon. He has the smoothest game in the NBA as it stands and, along with the return of Kawhi Leonard and the addition of John Wall; the Clippers are legitimate contenders once again. Paul George is a big part of the plans as one of the best two-way wings in the business. His shot creation is off the charts as well as his mid-range and long-distance game. His stellar perimeter off and on-ball defense is the cherry on top.

In the 2021-22 season, the pressure mounted very quickly for George as he tried to navigate the waters without Kawhi Leonard for the entire season. In 2022-23, there will still be some, but most of the pressure can and will be alleviated by Leonard’s return. This bodes well for the Clippers because a relaxed Paul George is a dangerous Paul George. If he is playing with confidence and picking apart defenses by getting to his spots, it’ll be a long season for the rest of the Western Conference.

1. Devin Booker

Devin Booker

2021-22 Stats: 26.8 PPG, 5.0 RPG, 4.8 APG, 1.1 SPG, 0.4 BPG

Regardless of what you may think or feel about Devin Booker, he is currently the best shooting guard in basketball. The 2021-22 season may have ended embarrassingly but let’s not let it distract us from what we saw from Booker during the year. When Chris Paul went down just before the All-Star break, it was Booker who speed up as the Suns’ playmaker. Whenever Phoenix needed a clutch bucket, it was Booker who got to his medium-range spots for the score. Chris Paul may be the floor general, but this is Devin Booker’s team.

Over the past few seasons, we have watched Booker evolve from a guy who could put up numbers but not will his team to win to a winner in every sense of the word. Under the tutelage of Paul, Booker has become a vastly smarter playmaker. He knows that when he tries to get to his mid-range spots, but the lane is clogged when and who to kick it out to. He reads defenses way better than he has in the past. His first step off the dribble has become one of the best in basketball. Paul, Monty Williams, and the supporting cast have been vital to the Suns’ success but without Booker’s elevated game, who knows where they would be? I don’t expect anything less than another first seed for Phoenix if he remains healthy and continues to adapt to whatever teams may throw at him.
