It might not be the best time to be Russell Westbrook. The former MVP gets hated on every other week for something or the other. Admittedly, Russ had a very poor campaign by his high standards in the 2021-22 season. It didn’t help that Anthony Davis and LeBron James both missed significant time, meaning the Los Angeles Lakers had a horror season. But this made Russell Westbrook the scapegoat, and the criticism he gets has still not died down.
There were clips time and again of Westbrook’s lowlights, him turning the ball over during games and missing shots. In particular, him hitting the rim almost became a meme after the ‘Westbrick’ nickname got popularized again and led to both him and his wife speaking out against it.
And one video of him working out against Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Handy has gone viral yet again on Instagram. The two went 1-on-1 against each other, and even though Russ made a shot or two, he was missing jumpers, for the most part, clanking them and watching the ball rim out. As has become the norm, comments were filled with fans dissing Westbrook and his declining ability to shoot the ball.

Westbrook’s future with the Los Angeles Lakers seems quite dicey. LeBron James recently showed his support for the former MVP, but the Lakers also traded for Patrick Beverley, who has beefed with Russ in the past. Whether he will get a chance at redemption or not next season is yet to be decided, but if anyone is itching to prove everyone else wrong, it’s probably Westbrook.
