LeBron James ‘Admits’ He Doesn’t Actually Read Books Before Games

LeBron James took the opportunity to troll the haters that believe he doesn't actually read books before games.

LeBron James dropped a lot of gems during his hour-long interview with Pat McAfee. One of McAfee’s co-hosts, Boston Connor, asked James whether he actually reads and finishes the books he is seen reading before games. LeBron defended himself, saying that he finishes most of the books he reads, but then played out a trolling skit of him reading the first page for a picture, and then throwing the book away.

For years, James has been spotted reading books, but almost always, he is seen reading just the first page of these books. Fans have speculated about James’ reading habits for years. Former Lakers teammate Alex Caruso hilariously joked about James not being an avid reader a few years ago.

While another former teammate, Richard Jefferson, fibbed about LeBron actually coloring in his books with pencils and pens. Jefferson is known to joke around and not be 100% serious when talking about most things, so it’s very likely that the former NBA champion was just looking for fun at his former Cavaliers‘ running buddy.

Some have even used James’ infamous reading habits to make fun of him, like one San Antonio Spurs player did when talking about Victor Wembanyama’s reading habits.

James has expressed to others in the past that the reason he reads books, especially before big playoff games, is to alleviate the stress he feels ahead of a big game. And in all sincerity, it is highly unlikely that James takes pictures of himself reading the first page of a book, only to never finish, considering how well-known this rumor is.

LeBron is one of the most intelligent players in the NBA, both on and off the court. One can attribute a large portion of his intelligence and maturity to his reading habit. LeBron never attended college, famously entering the NBA directly out of high school. But that has not stopped the King from pursuing more knowledge.

This has allowed him to be successful on and off the court. James is revered as a basketball savant. But off the court, he has started several businesses and invested his money very wisely, allowing him to earn a lot of money. In fact, a majority of his income these days is from off-court ventures, with his salary as an NBA player making up very little of his earnings.

More than anything, James has made reading a hobby of his. A few years ago, he talked about the inspiration he drew from Malcolm X after reading his book multiple times. LeBron is a very socially conscious person and likes to read and stay up to date with several different thinkers and philosophers to try and expand his horizons.

Hopefully, we see James continue his reading habit, as it is a great one to have. Perhaps next time he shares a picture of himself reading a book, he will make sure to not have the book open to page one.
