At this point in his career, LeBron James has become more than a basketball player. He has become a role-model, spokesman, and cultural icon, often inserting himself in politics and speaking up on issues plaguing our time.
So when Bron posted a photo on Instagram of himself reading “The Autobiography of Malcolm X,” nobody was particularly surprised.

He also brought it to a post-game press conference, where he was asked to share some thoughts on it.
“I kinda just started a couple days ago. I’ve read a lot of notes over the years. It’s my first time actually reading it start to finish. Just a very smart man. And basically his words in the 60s and what was going and is actually what’s going on today still. Him understanding how powerful the negro can be. How powerful we are if we unite, be together, stand strong cause there is always going to be obstacles. Things are going to be thrown at us to weaken us. ….. Very powerful minded gentleman.”

In these times of racial tension, Malcolm’s words are definitely relevant and it seems LeBron is trying his best to educate himself on the issue.
Of course, some doubt that he read it at all, but that’s a story for another day…
