Brooklyn Nets Are Waiting For Kevin Durant To Retract His Trade Request, Says Zach Lowe

The Kevin Durant saga remains a hot topic around the NBA, and that won’t change anytime soon. The 2x NBA champion shocked the world when he requested a trade from the Nets last month, and even though nothing has changed with him, every day, we hear more and more about the Durant situation.

Not everybody is happy with this trade saga, and even owners are ready to make some substantial changes soon, which could affect a lot of players. Meanwhile, the Nets are still trying to find a new home for KD, although they’re not as active as before.

Some say the Nets are getting ready to have both Durant and Kyrie Irving on the roster at the start of the 2022/23 NBA season, and a recent report suggests that the Brooklynites are hoping that KD backpedals and decides to stay with the team.

Via Zach Lowe of ESPN:

The Nets are probably waiting for Durant’s camp to realize that and maybe for Durant to retract his trade request. The Nets have not given up on this scenario, sources say.

Suitors are waiting to see if Brooklyn concludes that kind of reunion is not possible. Durant could accelerate that process by publicly or privately explaining his trade request and emphasizing he will not back off. Would such a stance mean sitting out — as Ben Simmons did last season? I don’t know. League insiders repeat the trope that Durant “is not wired that way” — that he loves the game too much. But that is speculation. Time will tell.

Right now, this is a long shot, but things could change quickly if KD sees that nobody is willing to offer what the Nets are asking for him. They still have a solid team after making interesting additions in the offseason. If KD decides to stay with them, the Nets would run it back and have a better chance to compete for the championship.
