The Kevin Durant saga continues, as the Brooklyn Nets are yet to find the right offer to ship the veteran forward somewhere else. Many teams have been linked with a move for KD, including his favorites Phoenix Suns and Miami Heat, but nothing has happened so far with the 2x NBA champion.
More teams have shown interest in the player, but the Nets’ asking price has scared them away. The Toronto Raptors reportedly don’t want to move Scottie Barnes, and the New Orleans Pelicans are reluctant to part ways with Brandon Ingram.
It’s obvious that the Nets will want to get the maximum return for Durant since he’s one of the five best players in the league, but not everybody is willing to give up on their present and future to land KD. Recently, it was revealed that the Minnesota Timberwolves were inquired about their two best players, but they rejected the trade.
During a recent edition of the Posted Up podcast with Chris Haynes, Vince Goodwill claimed that the Nets asked for a lot to send Durant to Minnesota.
“I’d heard that Brooklyn came to Minnesota and said we want Karl-Anthony Towns, we want [Anthony Edwards] and we want four draft picks,” Goodwill said, via Sports Illustrated.
Goodwill kept discussing this situation, wondering what other team could offer a similar deal to Brooklyn.
“Who has that type of capital?” Goodwill asked. “What teams have two all-star level players plus draft picks, in a destination that would be palatable to Kevin Durant and still have enough to win a championship?”
However, Haynes said that teams must be careful with this move, as Durant could start slowing down in a couple of years while these young players will be entering or in the middle of their prime.
“That’s an awful lot,” Haynes said. “KD, he’s a guy, he’s a baller. Right now we don’t see him slowing down, but all we can go off is history and time. How many years does KD have at this level? And you’re going to give up a guy in Ant, who I think is going to be an All-Star for many years, [and] Towns [who] is going to make All-Star games as well.”
This is an interesting situation for the Nets, who keep looking for alternatives to deal Durant somewhere else. Right now, nothing is clear for the team or the player. It seems like this will take a lot to be completed. Not everybody has the assets to trade for Durant and not everybody is willing to let them go.
