Saturday night saw Draymond Green and Karl-Anthony Towns face off for the first time since the former falsely accused the latter of ducking Jimmy Butler. There was some tension in the air at Chase Center as a result, and the two men even went at each other at times during the contest. Despite that, Green surprisingly praised Towns postgame.

“It was good to see KAT show up and play like that,” Green said. “He played hard, played well. He was physical. Probably the most physical I’ve ever seen him. Had a little extra motivation, so that made the game really fun. That was great.”

Well, Green only has himself to blame for Towns having extra motivation. Not only did he make that false claim after the big man missed the last meeting between the Golden State Warriors and New York Knicks on March 4, but he wasn’t all too interested in apologizing either.

Green was ripped for his pathetic apology to Towns, and that added some extra spice to this game, which the Warriors ended up winning 97-94. Draymond got things going by seemingly calling Towns “soft” in the second quarter.

Not long after, Green told Towns to head over to the bench as he had picked up his third foul in the second quarter. The Knicks star took offense to the comment, and the two exchanged words.

Towns certainly was up for the fight, but Green would end up getting the last laugh. He hit basically the dagger layup over Towns in the final minute and did the “night-night” celebration to rub it in.

Green finished the night with nine points (3-9 FG), four rebounds, three assists, one steal, and one block. Towns, meanwhile, was the leading scorer of the game with 29 points (12-21 FG) to go with 12 rebounds, three assists, and a block, but it wasn’t enough to get the win in Jalen Brunson’s absence.

The Knicks struggled offensively without Brunson here, failing to even get to 100 points. They have now dropped to 42-24 this season and will take on the Miami Heat next at Madison Square Garden on Monday at 7:30 PM ET.

The Warriors, meanwhile, recorded a seventh straight win here and have improved to 39-28 this season. They are 14-1 when Jimmy Butler plays and are looking like one of the most dangerous teams in the Western Conference at this point.

Butler’s arrival was supposed to give the Warriors a much-needed boost, but they’ve been far better with him than anyone could have imagined. If they keep winning like this, you’d have to start considering them as a serious title contender.

The Warriors will get a stern test of their credentials next as they take on the Denver Nuggets at Chase Center on Monday at 10 PM ET. Another win there over one of the best teams in the West would be quite the statement, and you wouldn’t bet against them at this point, either.
