Miami Heat Join Crowded Race To Acquire Jerami Grant This Offseason

The Miami Heat will be making a serious push this offseason to improve their team no matter what. They ended up short against the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference Finals. Even though the Celtics looked decisively better, the Heat managed to take the series to seven games and stood a genuine chance of qualifying for the Finals again.

With the age of Jimmy Butler and Kyle Lowry, the Heat don’t have all the time in the world to deliver on their championship-winning potential. They need to do something in the next two seasons, or this team stands a genuine chance of missing their championship window.

To further extend their competitiveness, Miami is also joining the crowded race to acquire Jerami Grant from the Detroit Pistons. Others in the race also include the Atlanta Hawks and Portland Trail Blazers, but neither team is looking to make an immediate championship push like the Heat are.

Sources: Jerami Grant's trade candidacy has been heating up the past few weeks. Concerns over his extension have stalled potential suitors from seriously engaging with DET as of now. As previously reported, the Blazers & Hawks are teams to watch. Now, add the Heat to that list.

The Heat would be a great landing spot for Grant. A front-court combo of Grant and Adebayo is extremely interesting, as they provide very different things on the court and thus make the Heat a more complete team. Playing for a title contender will engage Grant’s defensive prowess once again, and he is another player capable of scoring for himself if needed.

What the Heat might have to give up to get Grant is a different matter entirely. Tyler Herro may be more valuable considering his age and ability to score 20+ points, so can the Heat try to package Duncan Robinson’s contract with a pick to get the soon-to-be free agent Grant?

A switchable two-way wing like Grant is a dream for most teams and would be a dangerous addition to a team as formidable as the Heat. While Atlanta and Portland may stand a better chance to make signing Jerami work, Pat Riley won’t rest until he figures out a way to acquire him for his Miami Heat.
