Golden State Warriors Take A Stand Against Gun Violence Ahead Of Game 2

After two years on the sidelines, the Golden State Warriors are back in the NBA Finals and down 1-0 to a very talented opponent.

But, ahead of Game 2 on Sunday, the team made sure to show their support for a different matter: gun violence.

During warmups, Warriors players and staff were seen donning shirts advocating for an end to gun violence in America.

It’s an admirable statement for the Dubs, who have done things like this in the past for other issues. And with the U.S. enduring a heartbreaking epidemic of mass shootings, it’s no surprise at all to see the whole team taking a stand.

During the height of the Uvdale shooting last week, Steve Kerr went viral for his comments on the subject.

“When are we gonna do something? I’m so tired of getting up here and offering condolences to the devastating families that are out there and I’m so tired of the excuses,” Kerr said. “I’m tired of the moments of silence. Enough! There’s 50 Senators right now who refuse to vote on HRA, which is a background check rule that the house passed a couple years ago. It’s been sitting there for two years and there’s a reason they won’t vote on it: to hold onto power. So I ask you, Mitch McConnell, I ask all of you Senators who refuse to do anything about the violence and school shootings and supermarket shootings, I ask you: are you going to put your own desire for power ahead of the lives of our children and our elderly and our church-goers? Because that’s what it looks like. It’s what we do every week. I’m fed up, I’ve had enough. We’re gonna play the game tonight but I want every person here, every person listening to this to think about your own child or grandchild, or mother or father or sister/brother. How would you feel if this happened to you today?”

Leave it to the Warriors to take such a stance during the Finals. Even as they compete on the ultimate stage, for the biggest prize, they have not lost sight of what matters the most.

Hopefully, their message makes a real difference and helps to bring change to the current issues plaguing the country.
