In just a few minutes, the Boston Celtics turned a game that was being dominated by their opponent completely in their favor, jumping to a double-digit lead to close out the fourth quarter and stun Stephen Curry’s Warriors.
But even with a 1-0 lead heading into Game 2, Celtics star Jaylen Brown is not taking time to savor the small victory. Instead, he keeps his mind on the battles to come and seems to understand more than anyone that the series is far from over.
“It’s one thing watching it on film and then going against it live and in person. Golden State is a generational team, especially their core group. They score points in bunches and have a lot of offensive firepower. Our job is to try and slow it down and negate it. Every possession matters. It’s the NBA Finals, so we just have to go into it with our best foot forward and play some really good basketball if we plan to win any games. I’m looking forward to the challenge.”

After years of early playoff exits, the Celtics have finally reached the apex of their journey. After Thursday’s win, they are closer to capturing a title than any other team in the league and closer than a lot of teams have been in decades.
But this is no time to celebrate if you’re in Boston. The Dubs have been here before and know how to bounce back after a loss. Steph Curry, Klay Thompson, and Draymond Green have more experience than anyone on the Celtics, and that will no doubt give them an edge in the games to come.
So, while the Celtics find themselves in a highly advantageous position, it’s dangerous for them to get too comfortable. Against this team, you cannot let up — and it’s a good sign that Jaylen, in his first Finals series ever, understands that reality.
