Who Is Dawn Thornton?
Dawn Thornton, formerly known as Dawn Brown, has established herself as a prominent figure in women’s college basketball, both as a player and a coach.
Thornton began her collegiate basketball journey at Atlanta Metropolitan College, where she played her first two seasons. She then transferred to Jackson State University, contributing to the Lady Tigers’ success.
During her tenure at Jackson State, she helped lead the team to consecutive SWAC Regular Season Co-Championships in her junior and senior years. Over her two seasons with the Lady Tigers, Thornton appeared in 39 games, averaging 1.1 points and 1.4 rebounds per game.
Thornton’s coaching career commenced at Tougaloo College, where she served as an assistant coach from 2007 to 2010. Her efforts were instrumental in guiding the Lady Bulldogs to their best record in 12 years and a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Tournament semifinal appearance during the 2009-2010 season.
